NESN learned on Monday night that the 37-year-old Varitek will exercise his $3 million player option for 2010 that includes up to another $2 million in incentives. The move is expected to be formalized on Tuesday and will keep Varitek with the Red Sox through at least the end of 2010.

Keep Tek to train Martinez. Best back-up catcher in baseball, his knowledge is probably the best in MLB.

Wakefield is doing GREAT! Knuckleballers are a strange breed, but he drifts the ball then tosses heat/slider/curve. Eck gets worked up talking about him and it's fun to watch.

The team as a whole seem to be having fun getting paid to play a game. Tito is getting more like Belichek in post game press conferences.

The manager of Crosby Trucking in Sidney, Ohio, told the Boston Herald that its driver, Christopher Kindle, didn't bring the ketchup shipment because he was angry with the company over fines.

Instead of bringing the $43,000 shipment to Massachusetts, police told the Herald and the Sidney Daily News that Kindle admitted to leaving the trailer in Tennessee.

"On Monday I got an e-mail asking where the load was at ..." Kevin Mitchell, a manager for Crosby Trucking told the Daily News.

"That's when I was told the ketchup was for the Red Sox home opener."

The shipment was supposed to arrive April 3, the Herald said.

However, since the Red Sox's game against the Rays was postponed Monday, a new shipment came Tuesday in time for the game, the Daily News reported.
