| reply to BF69 said by BF69 :Ok won't pay for content but will pay PB so they can steal it? WTF? There are many people out there who donate to private torrent sites to give them bandwidth or keep them in business. Then you have people willing to pay for Rapidshare accounts and download that way.
I have a friend who pays about $70 a year for a premium rapidshare account and pays $50 a year for private torrent sites for bandwidth and donations. He figures the $120 a year he spends saves him tens of thousands of dollars on music, movies, software, and so on.
I don't subscribe to this line of thinking, but there are people out there that do. |

If you are going to go through all that trouble why not just buy the stuff legally? If you figure $80 a year for this service, but a few software packages later like Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Master Collection which is well over $1000 and that pays for the subscription. Add in any music/movies that you want as well and you are saving money.
To me, its not worth it, but to some people I guess you can justify it. |

| reply to BF69 paying for torrent access is indeed stupid. If you're going to pay to pirate, get usenet access, and download til your heart's content.
Oh, and without uploading, you don't even have to worry about being sued for piracy because you're not re-distributing the software/media!
If you're going to pay, pay for usenet. -- "What makes us omniscient? Have we a record of omniscience? ...If we can't persuade nations with comparable values of the merit of our cause, we'd better reexamine our reasoning." -United States Secretary of Defense (1961-1968) Robert S. McNamara |

| reply to DrModem His post title is also wrong. Real pirates don't share what they get with anyone else (except of course their own shipmates). They certainly wouldn't do so with complete strangers.
Real pirates are the kind that attacked ships and took hostages off Somalia recently.
Furthermore, saying TPB is stealing is not only wrong (they only have metadata, no files), but the use of that word demonstrates a clear inability to do anything other than parrot media cartel propaganda.

| reply to BF69 said by BF69 :Ok won't pay for content but will pay PB so they can steal it? WTF? The fact that people are willing to pay a reasonable fee to access content is the real story here. Too bad the **AA and so-called anti-piracy idiots cant see that fact and instead are flabergasted that people will pay to pirate material.
Actually, PB is going forward with an entertainment content business model that will likely be successful and profitable. This type of business model is the one that content creators should have pursued in the first place rather than trying to litigate and bully their way to keeping profitability. |

They certainly wouldn't do so with complete strangers. Real pirates are the kind that attacked ships and took hostages off Somalia recently. My friend Webster says that a pirate is someone who commits or practices piracy. He then says that piracy, among other things, is the unauthorized use of another's production, invention, or conception especially in infringement of a copyright. Seems to me like a file sharing pirate fits the definition of a pirate, just not necessarily of the swashbuckling type. |
