1 edit | quote: said by According to posts in our Cablevision forum, the new tier being tested by Cablevision offers 101Mbps downstream and 15Mbps upstream for $289.95 per month. Before you complain about the price, note that this is a beta, and this specific tier would be targeted at very heavy residential or small business users. More affordable DOCSIS 3.0 tiers somewhere around 50Mbps are obviously likely.
a very rich person with nothing better to do with his or extra money lol sorry i'll settle for something alot slower and alot cheaper 1.5mbps for 19.95 a month 3.0 for 29.95 a month 6.0 for 34.95 a month even if you have 1gbps and it cost 1000 a month no residential would find a use or able to afford it |

 | reply to jadebangle While $1,000 a month is really, really steep. It's not true that a residential would find a use for 1GBPS. Come one, You could watch 3 streams of HD video in three different room, and record 2 HD shows all at the same time! I could think of many more. |

In fact I just finished watching a netflix movie and it was always under 5Mbps.
MPEG-2 is wasteful. |
|
 | Yea, MPEG-2 is really wasteful. I have U-Verse in SoCal. It's basically a 24mbps connection with 6 mbps dedicated to video. I believe that U-Verse uses an mpeg-4 codec for their video. Man are their problems with viewing three HD programs at the same time with their service. It kind of sucks. The picture quality for their HD material is really, really soft and fuzzy too. It would be great to have at least a 100mbps speed connection for all that in addition to the internet, etc... We'll get there eventually... |

| reply to imtim83 Out of every single MSO in this country, they get it. Sure the critics will say: 'Their foot-print is minimal, sure they have less subs then majority of the MSO's in this country'. But they allow growth, and they allow what their CUSTOMERS need. Do they raise pricing? SURE, because they expand with GROWTH. They're the leaders of this field, and will continue to be the leaders of this field, because as much as people want to flame Dolan, he allows the engineers to fucking be engineers.
Besides the pricing point, you see currently, it'll adjust. They're seeing what Fios will offer, and I'm god damn happy they're bringing the fight to them. No MSO, or operator, has this type of competition in their areas, as Cablevision. They have to be leaders, not the typical Time Warner Cable, slack-jaw dependents.

Since a 1gb buisness internet connection would run you more then 75k a month i would say no. |
