Actually, it would make the upload script easier, as you would only need to create and upload two files VS eight files.

Windows SMP is fairly stable. It is a bit more difficult to set up and get going, but once done it just runs.

There are still a few minor issues, but they do not crop up all that often.

So, it really depends on your comfort level in Vista. A few things have to be done differently, but it is really not all that bad.

I'm not afraid of Vista, even though its adoption is one of the reasons why I went over to the Mac side for my personal/professional needs. The "easier" part I was referencing in my post was in regards to obtaining uploading scripts from TwoFrogs See Profile. I want to make sure I can get the stats uploaded, and get this going very quickly once the rig is here. I can generally figure out just about any program out there, given enough time, but setting up uploading scripts is something I have never done (I'll freely admit it).
I was also kind of throwing this out there to see if the SMP client had become more stable. I'll be able to easily monitor the new foldy, but the less babysitting I have to do, the better.
Thanks for giving me some insight in this - I really appreciate it.

At this point I find the MPICH version of the Windows SMP client quite stable. The only problem I encountered was shutdown on a server with two quad XEON processors and, thus, two SMP clients. If you shut down one with Ctrl-C, you lose all your work on the other. By accident I discovered I can avoid losing work by doing a shutdown of the server, allowing that process to shut down the clients. Problem solved.

I held off running the SMP clients for a long time because the install process looked long, tedious and iffy. When I finally devoted some time for it, I installed all three clients with no problems. If you do this, read all the related FAQs before starting the install, choose your plan of attack and then follow the instructions precisely. Not difficult just a long, tedious process.

I babbled about my 2 cents worth in a couple of Helix threads:

»[F@H] SMP Client Question
»[F@H] F@H On New Machine - Help

My thought would be to try it. If, for some reason, it doesn't work out on that box, you can always wipe out the install and go to the uniprocessor clients. If it does work out for you, it is so much easier to monitor and maintain one client than four.

That sounds like a good idea, sortofageek See Profile - I'll try the SMP first (after reading up on the process) and go from there.
How hard will it be to set up the stats upload scripts? Can you point me in any direction (even if that direction is to the search function on the site)?
THANK YOU, everyone, for putting up with my silly questions!

THANK YOU! I get it now - just some tools and a batchfile. I can do this.
