Just to follow up I'm at 4.5Mbps dl and 600Kbps upload which is probably the highest i'm going to get given the distance to the CO. I've very happy...i even went to Bell World and they gave me all the dsl filters for free!

Pretty easy set up!

Glad to know that and you have to be aware that Bell usually tend to put new user to a 3 Mbps down instead of 5Mbps but an email to Acanac should take care of it if that ever happen.

As for the speedtest Acanac got their own here it is: »www.acanac.ca/speedtest/

And everyone should do those speedtest without any downloading

hey darknestgirl i spoke to a rep and they said my line is still being assigned so it should go up in the next few days. I tried it again using the toronto server and got better numbers.

Could you IM me the address and postal code. I can check the typical speed (if some Acanac user have DSL is your area) for your reference.

Filters

I got 2 filters with my modem, but that was a year and a half ago. Probably still give 2 and yes you can order more or shop around for them.

Re: looking to sign up

ferg- thanks thats what i originally thought...but when i drilled down on the CO its gave me an address at orchard park which didn't make sense.

Will Acanac give me the filters. I have 7 phone connected so i guess i will need seven filters.

if i switch from rogers to acanac can i use the splitter that they used with my current modem with the acanac provided modem instead of installing a bunch of filters..there is over 7 phone jacks in my house.
Rogers is broadband DSL service which is different from Bell or Acanac DSL service using the phone line. You only need to put filters in locations where there is a telephone, not all telephone wall plates.

If you are 33km away from the CO, stay with Rogers but there should be something closer.

For the filter usualy they come with the modem if you take the one Acanac provides but you can also buy them from Acanac for around 5$ or in any electroncic store it's a ADSL line filter, you have to put them to be able to use the internet and the phone too cause if you don't have them your internet just disconnect until you hang up the phone.

With that distance you should expect to have at least 4 Mbps maybe more depending on the wiring condition. There 's an 30 money back guaranteed if you are not satisfied with Acanac. That's one of the reason why we ask ou not to cancell you actual service just in case Acanac internet doesn't work for you.

thanks darknestgirl! What type of filter to i need on each jacket and why do I need it?

how do i use this telcodata site. I put in my area code plus the first 3 digits of my phone number? I think that is right. which is 416-244...i looked at the address and its about 3 kms away....so i guess that is good?

It's not Acanac that set the profil at 3Mbps it's Bell and you need to contact Acanac so they can send a ticket to Bell to raise it but it's not always like that, my profil was already at 5Mbps when i sing up. You can go here: »www.telcodata.us/telcodata/telco if you want to have an idea of how far you are from the CO and it's doesn't matter if you have Bell phone line or a dry loop, it depends on the distance from the CO and your inside or outside wiring. The only thing is that you'll need to put filter on your every phone jack(where your phone is not on the one where you modem is)

i'm looking to sign up. I actually live in the North York area in Toronto, around Keele and 401 area. Wondering if anyone has any experience with acanac in this area. Also wondering why acanac sets up profiles with 3mbps then upgrades to 5mbps later. why not just have your profiles all 5mbps.

I have a bell phone line so i wonder if that will help when it comes to getting the max 5mbps.

thanks
