| Just had Wildblue installed To replace my 3 year old Hughesnet system.I did not have anything against Hughesnet until it needed service and was having trouble getting support. So when I found a local installer for Wildblue and could get it through Dishnetwork all on one bill I decided to switch. | |

Since you got WB service via Dish Network, Dish Network provides your billing and support. The Wildblue site is for Wildblue direct customers. -- Value Pack, beam 31, Riverside gateway

| Re: Just had Wildblue installed As far as I know Dish Network does not provide a way for the user to access his signal levels. One must ask an installer to use the SVT (Service Visibility Tool) and report the values to you.
Since you are a new customer you are probably using the satellite Wildblue-1 (WB-1). Also it would be wise to determine which spot beam and gateway you are using. If you have a connectivity problem, the first things to check are your weather and the weather at your gateway because bad weather can cause problems with satellite Internet. If you do not know your spot beam, I can probably figure it out if you post your ZIP code or the name of a nearby city and its state. -- Value Pack, beam 31, Riverside gateway

1 edit | Assuming you are using the satellite WB-1, Dwight, IL is covered by spot beam 114 and uses the Laredo Gateway in Laredo TX. The other less likely possibility is spot beam 27 of the satellite Anik-F2 which uses the Winnipeg Gateway. You can find links to radar maps of the gateways in the sticky thread, Weather at Wildblue NOC's, located on BBR's Wildblue forum page.
Beam 114 is popular and probably suffers from prime time slowdown, that is, slow upload and download speeds from about 5 pm to 11 pm on weekdays.
A good site to run speed tests on Wildblue Internet is Test My Network. If you have the Value Pack (Dish Network calls it the Bronze package), I suggest using the 1024 kB file size for download and the 579 kB file for upload. If the testing file size is too small, the result will be inaccurate. Here are my results while using the Cheyenne proxy for Anik-F2:

4 edits | Re: Just had Wildblue installed Slowness from weather/traffic/beam you are on, I really don't know.
Today here for example we are getting snow, wet snow at that, and if there is enough on the dish that will interfere for some sluggish browsing, snow on a little white peice (see arrow on attached photo).

| If your beam has prime time slowdown, according to reports the middle and top package are especially slow during such times. The bottom package does not slow down as much. Since the latency is the same with all packages, browsing does not improve much with the higher speed packages, but downloading and uploading files improves. -- Value Pack, beam 31, Riverside gateway | |

| Re: Just had Wildblue installed conditions are very cloudy Dish Network's Silver Package is the same as Wildblue's Value Pack (the one I have) making our tests comparable. For our packages:
maximum download speed: 512 kbits/second maximum upload speed: 128 kbits/second
Your download speed is good at 90% of the maximum.
Your upload speed is slow at 41% of the maximum.
There are a few tests you can run to investigate why your upload speed is slow, but before I can give suggestions I need to know which spot beam and gateway you are using. If you do not know, I can probably figure it out if you tell me when you got service from WB and either your ZIP code or the name of a nearby town that is large enough to be on a map. -- Value Pack, beam 31, Riverside gateway

| Re: Just had Wildblue installed conditions are very cloudy In Gallipolis, OH you are probably using beam 125, Syracuse gateway and the satellite WB-1. This beam is popular and has been reported to suffer from prime time slowdown.
Whenever you have problems with your WB connections check the weather at the Syracuse gateway in addition to your local weather. Bad weather at either location can cause problems with your WB system. Since Doppler radar shows some light to moderate rain in Syracuse, NY, this could be the cause of your slow upload speed. After the weather clears, run a speed test to see if your upload speed improves. -- Value Pack, beam 31, Riverside gateway

| Re: Wild BLue is very slow today Now your download speed is slow at 30% of advertised while your upload speed is improved at 69%. The results show that you conducted the test at ~4:06 pm but do not indicate the time zone.
Do these slow speeds occur during specific times of day? As I mentioned earlier beam 125 is known to suffer from prime time slowdown. Between ~5 pm and ~11 pm local time on weekdays many WB users access the Internet simultaneously causing the speeds to slow down. If your speeds are good at other times of the day or on weekends and holidays, then prime time slowdown is likely the cause. There is no solution to prime time slowdown other than using WB during less busy times. Run speed tests at different times of the day and compare the results to check for this possibility.
If your speeds are slow outside of prime time while the weather is clear, then something may be wrong with your system, such as a misaligned dish. There are some tests you can run to investigate this possibility too. -- Value Pack, beam 31, Riverside gateway
