2 edits | [ PVP] How to beat a rogue: a warlock's perspective I'm pretty big into PVP and am always looking for different ways to improve against each class. For me the toughest class to face is a rogue. I can't tell you how many times rogues have stun locked me and DPS'd me down to death in what seems like a ridiculously short time, even though I've got about 700 resilience. They are certainly my anti-class. I am looking for suggestions on how I can do better against them, mainly for arena 2's and 3's, and of course also in the bg's.
When I enter an arena and one of the opponents is not visible I'll drop a summoning circle and have my felguard stay there on aggressive as I walk 8 yards or a bit more away from him. This way the instant a rogue does anything to become visible my felguard charges him for a 3 second stun. If the rogue saps me I do not trinket out if it, as this is just a ploy to get me to waste my trinket. Now once my felguard stuns him I will cast fear on him, and then he will trinket out or disappear or do something that breaks it. Then he stuns me and begins ripping me apart, so I trinket out and death coil him away and start casting fear or howl of terror. Now the rogue will do something like cloak of shadows (I'm not real familiar with all of the rouge abilities) and he gets out of that too, and from that point on I'm usually stunlocked and getting DPS'd down to death in a very short time. If I'm able to teleport away and throw some dots on the rogue he will just disappear and all of the dots disappear also (how convenient) and he will continue his stunlocking beatdown. Sometimes the rogue will enter some sort of superspeed mode and I think he's immune to any of my fears during that time.
Now I know that using the succubus to charm a rogue can help, but the problem is that there is no other class I prefer having the succubus out for (I really love my felguard. He has that instant stun and does a ton of damage).
I have had a little luck incorperating the use of my rocket boots in the fight when I can to get away a little bit.
I could also spec to have an instant howl of terror, but then I lose the ability to spec deep enough into demonology to get the felguard!
I'd appreciate any input/ suggestions/ advice on how to best deal with a rogue. Thanks! |

|
 | Yea i love Cloak Of Shadows even though i admit its OPness against casters. You really have to wait for the rogue to make a mistake if he gets the drop on you and has his pvp trinket on. God forbid he is undead or human also and has that one engineering trinket on top of that. |

I'm not bitter though...a rogue has never taken down my prot pally. Not once |

 | When rogues die and go to hell, there will be demon prot pallies everywhere. |

As a Rogue, Paladins give me the biggest problem, plus they are the one class that really ganks me all the time. Hell, got bombed dropped today by a paladin when I started on a saronite node. |

of course that means...all classes to us..
:P -- www.stopfcc.comI do not think the government needs to restrict free speech especially on a device that has an off knob. |

 | reply to P Ness I remember pre WOTLK there was a moonkin in our battlegroup that had that super rare PVP title where he was basically the best PVPer in the whole battlegroup (forget the title). Going against him was like trying to take on an elite boss by yourself, lol... just wasn't going to happen. He'd kill 6 or so of vs him by himself, no joke. When he was about to get killed he'd morph into the wolf or whatever it is you guys turn into and run away to go heal himself. Point being... moonkin's can be bad ass big time. |

 | reply to Omega I've been trying out some different specs and find I'm having more luck vs rouges if I have instant howl of terror. I dueled one a couple days ago and beat him every time, like a half dozen times in a row. Before I had instant HoT he was beating me. |

 | reply to Critsmcgee7 What engineering trinket are you talking about? The gnomish poltryzer to turn them into a chicken? I'm a maxed gnomish engi. |

1 edit | Gnomish Lightning Genorator or something like that. Basically shocks your opponent with lightning for like 2-3k damage and it can crit. Caption reads "The device itself is made out of metal" or something like that.

 | reply to cosmicdream I like to pvp as well. My gist is:
Locks vs. Rogue outcome boils down to the first 1.5 seconds of a fight.
If you can get a fear or deathcoil off on him, then you can *hopefully* keep him fearlocked and you win. This depends, of course, on skills he has on cooldown.
However if you meet a rogue that can master his class and playstyle, he will mop the floor with you 1 on 1 easily no matter how skilled you are or what you do.
Rogues are one of our our anti-classes after all |

 | reply to cosmicdream If you are talking about dueling try a VW sac + fel dom VW for another bubble if needed and have him consume shadows + the aoe taunt for 10% chance to miss. While the voidwalker is consuming shadows there should be a macro you should be spamming. You will have to look it up. I know it is on arena junkies under warlock macros. Should be rogue finder or something but basically you spam a macro that casts a spell to any enemy within 10 years (CoE Corr whateva) In arena you better hope you have a healer or you will die in a good 10 seconds tops. I am a warlock myself and I do arena with 850 resi 25k hp unbuffed and I ALWAYS have trouble with rogues unless I have a healer. |

 | reply to cosmicdream Locks will usually lose out to rogues, just like warriors and pallys will usually win against us. Its the natural order of wow. Rogues>clothies, Plate>rogues |
|
 | reply to cosmicdream The only way a warlock beats a rogue is if cloak of shadows and vanish are on cooldown. Or if the rogue is really, really bad.
Why do you think rogues go through battlegrounds looking for warlocks and avoiding other classes? We should just have signs on our backs saying "Rogues, come here and pad your stats." -- It's a trick. Get an axe. - Ash |

 | Rogues are the only class that can wait to attack someone, its so fun being the predator and not the prey =D. Though more often then not I find that all of a sudden there's 5 ally's helping out the victim out of nowhere, the joys of being a rogue. |

I rolled a rogue mainly for: 1. Melee DPS 2. Not being the prey
I'm never the predator unless it is someone on my special list, which is only 2 names... both paladins. I use my rogue skills to hide, I really should be on a PVE server but all my friends are here |

I had a release day rogue that I played through until I broke my hand and sold my account last year. I miss it now but damn was it super frustrating at times (pre cloak of shadows especially). -- I'd take the time to insult your intelligence, but you probably wouldn't get it. |
