 | slow speeds, poor sync My speeds are all over the map, for 92kbs, 2400kbs, back to 892 kbs. Tired of rebooting Speedtouch 516.
Any ideas? TSI Direct says the dreaded ticket opening option and the possible charges if Bell says nothing wrong; Bell says that 99.9% in my situations.
Using Dry DSL. |

 | reply to hockeynomad Mlerner, how does your glance tell you that? |

OK, just employed a 100' phone cord connected directly from the outside demarc point to the modem, bypassing the internal wiring.
Here are the stats:
The inside wiring is faulty? Well I paid some tech $300 to reconfigure for VOIP months ago. Not sure about that. |

Depends on how the tech reconfigured it but if your wiring was already out of shape, it probably had no impact to how it was before. |

1 edit | reply to hockeynomad Interesting, one reason I migrated to VOIP was the perpetual problems with the POTS phone. Always static on my end.
What's to do, short of ripping out all wiring and starting over again?
But this VOIP and DSL constant reconfiguring has almost driven me to drink. $6 per month but my sanity is disappearing.
May just go with Rogers Cable and VOIP. |

OK, back to the inside wiring. Stats are better now I guess. Maybe flaky lines? |

| reply to hockeynomad I can achieve better with a higher attenuation so there is a line problem either outside or inside. The quick fix would be just to split it at the outside demarc and run a long Ethernet cable inside, NOT a long copper cable as that degrades the quality of the line. If that doesn't improve anything then I guess it's off to Rogers, which ironically I'm considering right now because of the distance and quality of my line (barely holding 4 megs right now). |

 | reply to hockeynomad so how much for a 50' ethernet cable? |

| said by hockeynomad:so how much for a 50' ethernet cable? Monoprice is the best place for cables and adapters. Would you believe $4.43 USD for 50ft? I paid more than triple that years ago and their quality is excellent. It will however take a long time for shipping, about a week since they use USPS.
