| Anyone getting lots of disconnects?
I'm not sure why, but my connection keeps resetting or disconnecting randomly all day long. Only for a second.. anything using the internet just stalls out for a second.
I think the modem might be resyncing alot.. I wasn't really having and problems until a few days ago. I can't think of what would of started happening between then and now? It's getting annoying.
Maybe something happened to my line? |

@teksavvy.com | reply to zod5000 It's possible that your modem might be dying. Your symptons sound similar to mine when my modem died. |

1 edit | reply to zod5000 I use a power bar, but nothing else on the power bar seems affected.
The modem's not even a year old (thompson speedtouch). I thought about using the seimens, but you can't deactive the router inside of it.. and I like my linksys router.
edit: additional note, I have now moved the plug directly into a wall plug to see if that makes a difference. Allthough my computer was plugged into the same powerbar before, i'll have to see if that stabilizes it at all. |

| reply to zod5000 I left irc on while I was gone (since it makes it easy to see when you get connect/disconnected in the log) and it didn't disconnect all day, until I came home.. really wierd.. which makes me thing its not a co-incidence.
Maybe I should try the siemens but I really don't want to as I really like the linksys router with tomato firmware. |

1 edit | Any chance that you have a loose or shorting phone wire somewhere, that moving around might cause it to short/twitch? Can you plug the modem in to a different phone socket and check stability on it? Or preferably unplug every phone line off the demarc and plug directly in to the Demarc point where the phone lines come in.

Basically I have a POTS splitter and beside it a dual phone jack. The left jack is for internet, the right jack for phone line. Only other option is to plug it right into the pots splitter but that didn't help.
I've tried different phone cords to no avail. I just swapped out the speedtouch for the siemens and siements connection got reset too. I think maybe the fact it didn't disconnect all day was a co-incidence. I might have to give telus a call tomorrow.. its getting pretty annoying. |

Interesting... comment. The tech who did my installs at my new place replaced my old speedtouch with a newer one and than also used a newer one on my other connection.. He made almost exact same comment about them...
Besides the power supplies are there any other differences between the older and newer models?

| reply to zod5000 I called tech support, he ran me through the usual route, asked for a callback number. He contacted the head technician and called me back to set up an appointment. Problem between when the call ended and when he call back I completely lost my internet. He said they were probably running tests, but its still down. They must of done something to lose it completely. |

| reply to zod5000 yah the dsl light just keeps flashing. it goes solid when it connects and the internet light comes on as well.
problem is when i called about it last night they made it worse. The guy told me he'd call back, had to talk to a head technician and get back to me. When he did I had completely lost internet. He said the head technician was probably running some tests.
its been off ever since. so by calling them I made it worse. I've tried to call today to see if they can see if its been disconnected, but they haven't a clue. I keep getting script reading technical support that hasn't a clue. A technician is supposed to come over today, but there's only a few hours left in the day? I hate dealing with telus customer service, its like pulling teeth. |

1 edit | reply to zod5000 Crap.
It wasn't the port. It still wouldn't sync in my apartment, or in the phone room downstairs.
He could sync at the CO though. So he figures its the connection between the CO and my apartment somewhere. Because I had Turbo the db line noise was too high (which is understandable, because I was only syncing around 13mbps instead of 15mbps).
So he got telus to lower it to 6mbps for tonight and he's going to see if he can find a better pair to wire it into tomorrow.
I get the feeling i've just lost turbo crap.
edit: I don't quite get it. When there's line noise, doesn't the modem automatically keep trying to sync at lower rates. If I had 15mbps and the line noise was bad, wouldn't it just sync lower, instead of no sync at all? |

1 edit | said by tantin1979 :did the field tech contacted you back? if not pm me ur service telephone # and i'll check it with our dispatch team and see what I could while im still in the office Yah he did... I guess my other option was to have no internet this evening, so he had them downgrade it to 6mbps so it would sync. He's going to test other lines "pairs" in the morning to see if any of them have lower noise db numbers. Apparently the original line I was on went on a loop for 4.9km's (which would explain why I never synced much higher than 13mbps). He change it to a line that had 1.9km but that didn't work either. So he says he has to see if any lines into my building have lower db levels. Even with my less than desirable line I was able to sync at much higher speeds that 6mbps. I don't get why I wasn't syncing at all. I figured the modem should just drop to a speed where it establishes a sync. I hope they fine a better line to use or i'm going to lose turbo |

| the profile for the High Speed Turbo is designed to sync between 10 and 15 Mbps. So if your best rate is less than 10 it will not sync at all. However, since your rate is 13 mbps, I would suspect your line is satisfactory to support the turbo as the rate is UP TO 15 Mbps. If you don't mind, PM me your number and I will see what I can see what I can do for ya. |

I am wondering if something happened to my line that dropped the quality below 10mbps, hence all the sync losses. The dsl light would flash, it just wouldn't connect and go solid. Then again he did say he tried to switch the line I was on once already (from the 4.9km line to a 1.9km line and he still couldn't get sync). I'll keep you posted if it doesn't work out tomorrow. |

| reply to zod5000 It turns out it was good news. The tech found a line with acceptable db loss, and now my turbo is working again.
Its actually running faster that it was when it worked on the old line. abuot 12.4mbps down/ .85 mbps up. Before it ran around 11mbps/down / .85 mbps up.
I can't see what my sycing at because he also gave me a new speedtouch modem (which telus locks out), but Imagine it must be at 15mbps or close to it.
Thank god I don't have to go back to 6mbps |
