 | [General] WHR 125G + tomato setup help Hello! I'm a total noob here so pl bear with me
I have a need few inputs on how to the do the following using a G125 running tomato 1.23ND
1) How do I assign a static Ip to my computer that is connected to the LAN port of the router? When I manually enter the IP as 192.168.1.xx subnet 255.255.255.0 , I am able to ping the router (192.168.1.1) but am unable to access the net through the WAN. Only when I set it to automatically obtain IP am I able to connect to the WAN.
2) How do I configure the Router to schedule a Connect/Disconnect of the WAN(modem) at a particular time? Script on the router or from the computer?
3) Is there any way I can set the up the network in such a way that I can access the LAN automatically, But have to Dial to access the WAN(net)?
Thanks in advance |

yes.. I have done that.. I am able to ping the router when I do that but can't access the net.. what should I set as the gateway? the router Ip?
Also I managed to do point 2 through the scheduler+ "service wan start/stop" command.. |

 | reply to spy king Hey.. set it as 192.168.1.1 .. still no luck..
This is my current set up WAN: Connection Type PPPoE IP Address 59.92.66.21 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.255 Gateway 59.92.64.1 DNS 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
LAN: Router IP Address 192.168.1.1 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 DHCP 192.168.1.22 - 192.168.1.60
When I set the computers Ip to 192.168.1.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1
I am only able to ping the router.. not able to access the net.. |

With every computer, router and modem off, start modem then router then computer('s), waiting for all lights to finish flashing before starting the next. -- My grandkids ARE cuter than yours! |

PeeWeePremium join:2001-10-21 Madera, CA | reply to spy king What modem are you useing? |
|
 | reply to spy king Hey..
no luck.. tired cold booting ( like you said ) still no luck..
The modem is a SmartAX Mt882 (it came with my DSL connection)
The funny thing is when I set my manual IP, I then log into the router.. and then taking the external IP, I'm able to ping it.. along with the modem "gateway"... |

PeeWeePremium join:2001-10-21 Madera, CA | Your "modem" is a router. I don't believe you can run one router behind another. You may have to set mode to router in order for this to work, under advanced- routing- misc.- mode. -- My grandkids ARE cuter than yours! |
|
 | Oh.. I clean forgot!!
So now I have to set the "modem" router to what mode? I shall just check the options available and get back to ya! |

|
 | Hey.. Really sorry.. I haven't been feeling to well.. I'll connect my "router" modem directly and check right now.. |
|
 | reply to PeeWee I'm even more confused now.. let me try and explain..
Modem: Smartax MT882 running original Fw. It's in Pure Bridge mode.
Now do I keep it in pure bridge or routed mode? if routed what IP should I add?
When I set my wifi router Router mode from gateway, I wasn't able to connect to the net..
My main aim is to assign my machine a Static IP and still have the router assign Ip's via DCHP to other machines that connect to it.. secondary aim would be to be able to log into the Modem admin page..
Thanks..! |

 | Damn. I feel like such an idiot. How could I have missed something so stupid? :|
It works flawlessly now.. thanks!
two more quick tomato based questions..
1.Is there anyway I can send commands to the router from my system?
I basically want one script that when run connects WAN and another when run disconnects WAN..
2. Is there anyway I can access my modem's Webadmin page from behind the router?
Thanks! |
|
 | I just managed to connect to my modem admin page using IPtables
now only for WAN connect/disconnect from the computer, that is without having to login to the router admin page and click on connect/disconnect... Basically cause my DSL line is a capped line and I don't want to be always connected to the net.. |
|
 | Hey! All done
thanks a lot for all the help
PS: Used a telnet script to start the wan service and stop the wan service.. |
|
 | Instead of hard coding the static IP, you cna just use the Static DHCP function of Tomato to assign fixed IPs. Just make sure the Static IPs are outside of the DHCP Server "IP Address Range" you have specified under Basic-Network.
See attached screenshot. |

 | reply to spy king Hello!
Would there be any page where I can see the list of commands I can run by telnet ing to the router?
I would like to change the WAN ppoe Username and password through a script..
Tks! |
