Got a postcard from RCN:

New Srevice Package

Your current rate will increase between $5 and $6
This change is necessary to continue providing you with enchanced fiber-optic services, including 100% digital TV with more channels and HD programming, faster internet and unlimited calling.....

They want
$45 for local phone or $50 for unlimited phone
$35 for 1.5 Mbps internet or $60 for 10 Mbps

and so on

Add on combo discount $5
Double play discount $20
Triple Play discount $50

I got that too. But did you notice on the left it said they added a whole bunch of premium HD channels? (and they list Sho 2 HD, etc)

Looks like they forgot to edit the postcard for LHV subscribers before mailing them lol.

In Maryland, the "New Service Package" postcard advised both

1. $9 or $10 per month increase;

2. Eliminating Cinemax from the movie package.

I was disappointed when RCN removed HDNET and HDMOV to an additional $8.95

Many of the new HD channels are only available at extra expense.

Couple these price increases with difficult/unresponsive service located overseas, RCN is no longer competitive in this area with Verizon FIOS.

Plus, it really steams me that RCN doesn't know the meaning of the words "contract commitment" since it reserves to itself the right to eliminate service and increase prices at will. That seems like an unfair consumer unfriendly practice to me.

I have been with RCN for over 10 years. No longer.

I got the same card in Boston as well. RCN is going to be adding about 6 Showtime/MoviePlex channels such as to the DigitalVision Plus/Premiere Total package. In doing so, they're removing Cinemax, and selling it a la carte @ $8.99. I'm under contract for another year and now they want me to fork over more money for something I already recieve. I love the logic.

So I get no more HD channels and a rate increase of $9-$10/month.

Was this in with your bill, or did they separately mail this for all customers? I have not received this in the mail today. Then again, is there a chance they cannot send it to customers who live in an apartment complex that has a contract with RCN? I get a separate bill from RCN, but I can't get anything else because of a contract.

I got a similar notice in my bill last month. My rate went up by $8 for no additional channels or benefits. Yet another reason to look at Comcast when my promotional rate expires.

RCN is out of control. price hikes?!! in the lehigh valley? let me tell ya'll this. im done.. there's no way im gonna pay more & we get the least, and the bogus section regarding getting more channels? give me a break. its a wrap.

let me know what you decide to do. i may decide to go with direct tv. you are correct with them being out of control and leaving us in the dark. why should I pay as much as everyone else and only get 20HD channels when others are getting 100.

In the Lehigh Valley, our postcard says:

Rate will increase $10-$11 per month.

Cinemax no longer included (available ala carte for $8.95.)

Add on combo discount $5
Double play $15
Triple Play $35

I also though I was in a one year contract, and once again they want me to pay more for less. FIOS can't come soon enough...they need some real competition to shake them up.

The text on the other side of the card is particularly ironic for LHV customers: "To ensure we are providing you with the most up-to-date products and services at a competitive rate...your new plan will offer the same high level of service...."

jackal im thinking im gonna have to do a combo deal. Direct TV for my tv service and verizon DSL for my phone/internet. i know its going to be slower, but since i barely get 10MB download with rcn; even though i pay for 20mb, i'll deal with it.

I haven't had a problem with my internet, and I can do a good 20Mb from newsgroups from Giganews. I like my internet service, I'm just fed up with the lack of HD channels.

i see what your saying, but my position is different. i pay about 218.00 after taxes for the 20mb package, all the channels, 3 DVR's and phone service.

my complaints like you are: 20 HD channels, (while my friends are getting over 100) & my shotty i-net speeds.

NOW they're increasing my rates: i just complained about a rate hike after my promo expired (they wanted to charge me 230.00 a month but im getting a 20 credit) but i guess they found another way to try and get more money out of me.

with this increase i'll be paying 230.00 dollars for poor internet speeds, and the worst HD selection in the nation.

i wish joe or rcnman would have the heart or gutts to say what the problem in the lehigh valley is. i see them in every other post talking to chicago, boston & nyc about more channels, ect, ect. but yet they always avoid us.

how would rcnman or joe feel if they paid over 225.00 bucks a month and ask RCN employees about whats going on in they're market and get no response?

Hmmm... Gonna have to redo the math of RCN vs. DirecTv again... They just took back the $20/mo promo credit they gave me last year when I complained about last year's rate increase...
