 | Roaming :) All it means that ATT et all will be able to have an official roaming agreement with Cuban telecom company. So they'll be able to continue wire-tapping |

As far as I know roaming isnt even allowed in Cuba at this time. None of the carriers list Cuba on their 'international roaming' lists. Furthermore, it would be pretty hard to claim you werent in Cuba when you have a cell phone bill showing otherwise! -- When you can't make them see the light, make them feel the heat. -Ronald Reagan-

 | reply to bugabuga It's even better then that, all the companies that do business there will bend over backwards to please the great Cuban Overlords. Look at what they do in China to do business there. Granted, the economy won't be as large there, but I have heard some say it could become the Las Vegas of the East Coast. When, not if, it opens to Americans, look for a lot of money to be poured into that island. |

 | reply to wifi4milez Canadian cell phone plans sure can roam in Cuba. I didn't bring my T-Mobile SIM card to check
Calling out of Cuba and into Cuba is phenomenally expensive ($1+/minute). The reasoning is that it's used to raise revenue for the government, basically a tax on incoming and outgoing calls. Cubans are generally too poor to call out, so it's a way of getting their foreign relatives to fund the regime with every phone call in they make.
I really don't see AT&T and these other companies making much of a change. Euro-based cell providers have built the network there anyway, it's not like only Americans can build these networks.
The costs are high not due to inefficiencies, but high tariffs. |
