Getting speedstream modem to work

I've got 2 bell modems - speedstream 4200 & 5200.

I've tried to get them to work on Velcom, by:

1. putting in the velcom user/pass in the web gui screen,
2. I've tried to plug them into my netgear router,
3. I've tried to use XP PPPoE,
4. I've tried to put them into bridge mode and do all of the above in bridge mode.

But nothing is connecting. I've got the power, ethernet and DSL lights on... Any suggestions?

Thanks,
JJ

Ok, it wasn't the modem. It was Bell's setup. They had the port setup incorrectly, so while I could get DSL light - I couldn't connect because of the port thing.

Hey man, did you flash your speedstream? If yes, how?

I have a Bell SpeedStream 4200, and it has the Bell GUI in it. I use it on bridge mode with my Linksys router's PPPoE. It connects fine on this mode, but I also get frequent disconnections.

I've reset the modem, but I don't know if there are still ports blocked inside the modem. I've opened up the ports I need on the router, but I don't know how to change the ports in the modem.

I actually spent all night trying to unlock and do all this fancy stuff, only to find out it was a port problem outside the house at the remote.

So in the end, I just reset the modem (so it is at the Bell screen), and put then I put it into bridge mode. That was it.

With the modem in bridge mode.

I either connect through the WinXP connection thing.
or
Through my router.

I had a problem with my router. Even though my router worked perfectly with bell, when I went to Velcom, for some reason it totally dropped my speeds.

When I connected to the net without the modem, everything was fine.

I actually reset my router to default settings, and then re-entered my login info, then everything was fine.

Hope that helps.

I put the modem into bridge mode by connecting the modem directly to my computer via ethernet. Then going to:

192.168.2.1/brgmode.htm

This puts it into bridge mode.

To take it out of bridge mode, reset the modem by pressing the reset button until the lights start flashing.
