With that in mind, why would the GOP care so much about the welfare of this industry? Because, as you accurately pointed out, most of the time any proposal comes around to strengthen said industry, the GOP stupidly lines up behind it.
It's as simple as the GOP cares about private enterprise in general, although that certainly doesn't mean that GOP pols never make mistakes that hurt our economy.
