It appears from trolling your forums that metrocast is a bit on the awful side of stable decent internet connection. I play video games, I'm an uber nerd of WoW proportions and pwns nubs on halo 3. Now the peak times seem to be anything between 8 pm cst and 1 am cst here in starkvegas. South of us, in philly, there are similar problems that cause in game latency of 1900ms+ and in halo at least a 3 second delay between pulling the trigger and seeing your grenade explode.
I'll wait a few more days before completely scrapping my service with them, but the previous post about there being some "update" around new years is correct. Starting about the first of feburary my nerd buddies and I have found playing on metrocast internet impossible and we all live miles apart.
The best I've got from tech support thus far is "cycle power" "plug directly into the modem" and the normal quick fixes they can provide over the phone. Hell I even thought my desktop was the problem so I bought another computer to try and see if this would fix the lag. It didn't.
If there are any suggestions on how to fix this awful awful internet please tell me, otherwise my best bet is moving the "super ultra mega" ATT dsl offered here. I envy you people with choices of ISPs, sigh.

| Lucky you, my other option is dial-up. Metrofail of Mississippi is a rip off, customer service is useless and they've been "installing upgrades" for quite some time now. Try online gaming with this whopper of a connection. I'd be so happy with any sort of stable connection. |

| reply to themonad My tests are not quite as bad as yours, but mine is at 1800 kbps down and 120 kbps up when I am paying for 6Mbps/512kbps. This is consistent day in and day out. That is directly connected to the modem as well. If anyone on the forum could help us out or give us some pointers, I and the other people down here would much appreciate it. |

| reply to themonad Confirmed:
Got off the phone last night with a tier 3 tech support representative. There is a problem with the "pipes" he called it that is causing insane drop down of service and speed and they are aware of it. They do not produce / nor provide their own "pipes". Now we can all speculate about it as much as possible, but the new pipe was ordered near the end of January of this year. Thus the reasons last quarter our internet worked fine, now its shot.
The guy I spoke with had access and authority to tell me the true problem, call them yourselves and ask to speak to the next guy up from the one that answers the phone, the first guy is not authorized and has no idea of the problem, gotta ask for the supervisor or next level fella.
So I asked him what to do, he told me [he's a nerd himself and was fluent in 25 man raiding vernacular] all I can do is call back on a monthly, repeat monthly, basis to check the status of their new "pipes". Didn't realize my internet flowed like water, errr, molasses. Anyways, suggested my best bet was to discontinue or get supplemental internet service to help whenever it turns to doo doo.
Best you can get in the greater starkville area is the 3 meg line from bellsouth/att. So for 42.50 a month I'll be picking up the DSL in exchange for what I have currently.
Good Luck and Have Fun out there.

| The calls to support are basically just to show that there is an issue..I use it to log the call, that's about here.
The techs here have been able to work with the users to ID the problems we had in the northern CT legacy system. Hopefully they could do the same for you guys. |

| I was one of the most verbal complainers about service here in North Mississippi, both here and at my local Metrocast office. Since they fixed our problem, though (several weeks ago), the speeds below are representative of pretty much any time I run a test....no matter what time of day it is.

1 edit | It's just the standard 10/1.5 package. Not a business package. Our highest download speed previous to the upgrade was 5mb, but our upload has always looked like that. It really didn't get upgraded, just the download. |

| reply to themonad Well, I just found out one of my problems. Before Metrocast bought our local cable network, I was on their middle tier plan (equivalent to the 6Mb/512Kb plan now offered). Well, I just got off the phone with them and finally figured out that they never switched my service over to the 6Mb plan (they kept me on the slowest one) but were billing me for the 6Mb. Needless to say, I'm rather ticked. They got it swapped over but refused to do anything about the extra money that I have been paying for a while now for service that they never provided.
On top of that, I'm now seeing 3Mb/320Kb. So the upload has doubled and I got an extra 1Mb download. Still only about half of what I'm supposed to be getting. I'm just hoping that they are upgrading the lines to better handle the load because obviously the current setup is insufficient. |

| reply to themonad Hmmmm......looks like MS is routed differently now (according to the line quality report). No more Level3, and less hops. Download speed is faster, but upload took a hit. Pings look like they used to though, which is good for us gamers.....providing nothing else changed for the worse. |
