What happens when you use a Metrocast speedtest from the same computer?
I don't think it would matter. I'm in the same town as Morty, and my speedtest results are fine.
If you use one of metrocast's speedtest is will let you know if there is an actual issue on their network or on one of the boundry servers.

Morty, there's either something wrong with your computer or connection. Not like that's a news flash or anything. Just clarifying for anyone else who may be reading, since I'm in the same town as you and my connection is fine.

As I recall you are on the gamer package correct? Using their speed test and getting such poor results show an issue within the metrocast network from the modem to the headend.

Thats a big 10-4 on the gamer package, and that is an issue they don't seem to care about, despite my consistent complaints. I actually consider 4mb download decent since it on functions at what its supposed to 5% of the time.

Do you have names of the people you've been talking to? By the time I got my problem fixed, I was on a first name basis with the tech and his supervisor. It literally takes CONSTANT complaining, Morty. I have pages upon pages of emails saved from my fiasco. I can sympathize if you're into gaming, since I am, and a crappy connection is the enemy to us gamers.

What I found out through line quality tests, was that any time your connection isn't showing it's full connection speed (10/1), there was a packet problem every time. Reduced speed ALWAYS meant there was a quality issue somewhere. Never did I run a line quality test (or have smooth games) if the speed tests showed slower than expected results....even if they were in the 5-6mb range.

Right O, playing Call Of Duty:WAW is a bit of a challenge when everything you do is delayed a second. I'm very aware the problem lies in the connection as i've tested that with the new computers i've built and I must admit i've been so busy here lately I have called in to complain. Tho I sense I shall soon since the new online bill payment thing wont let me sign up as my account doesn't exist....

Nothing will change unless you stay on them, Morty. CONSTANTLY. If I had said nothing, I'd still be complaining about lag in Gears 2 (or anything else).

I hear all of you guys complain about the uploads and downloads. with metrocast. I live in Forest MS and I have to have use Wildblue satellite. I have been trying to get Metrocast to my house for a few years and ATT since 1999. I pay $70 a month for upload of 90kbps and download of 690 kbps. I may would have a different reaction if I was use to anything different. But I would love to get those speeds.

I'll do some complaining today when I call to see if they want me to pay my bill or not. Since they decided to change account numbers around and send me a bill saying payment due upon receipt, when I wasnt even behind to begin with.

Just stumbled upon this website, interesting to see the problems you guys have had. I have had much of the same, been with Metrocast for the last 7 years (it was Vista-3 back then) and had relatively nice service until the last 6 months or so.

Now, connection is constantly dropped, and dont even THINK about watching netflix streaming on the Xbox 360. Not an option most days.

Called, been given the run around, had it blamed on my router, etc etc, etc. Old wiring in house (house was built in the late 80's). Anywho, had a technician come out, gotten a few new modems, not fixes the problem though. Also, speeds are always SLOW.

thats the best I have seen in weeks.

I have been talking to someone in Philadelphia every couple months. He told me that they are in the process of connecting all of there areas in Mississippi so that everything is together and everyone is able to get the same packages as everyone else. I talked to him at the end of July and he said they were through with Starkville and now they were working on Kosciusko. Then they would go to Philadelphia then Carthage then to me in Forest then to Raleigh. So take that for what it is worth.

I've been dealing with this for too long not to know how to take it. It'll be a big massive f*ckaree for a while. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, though. Once MC get's their act together, they're generally solid. When they have an issue, though........wow. It won't be resolved quickly, I (and others in MS) can assure you of that.

well, we are on technician #4 in 2 days. First guy came out, assessed the situation, gave me a new modem. Same problem. Net works fine for 10 minutes then either slows to a crawl (under 1kbs) or just completely goes out.

next guy comes, realizes there is a problem, but has no idea what to do. We say OK, what about replacing the cable in the house? He says he cant do it, has to be a different technician, FINE.

Guy who CAN replace cable comes, confirms our cable in the house is bad/old and the box outside is reading (and i watched and saw the results) >6. So the signal into the house is strong and consistant, we checked it several times over an hour span.

So next up is them coming back today to replace the wires running from my box to my room with modem.

To be honest, I am just pissed that I pay so much and its just not working, HOWEVER, all the technicians that have come are pretty cool and really seem interested in solving my problem, not just doing the minimum and leaving. And they have come out either same day or next day after I have called quite a few times, so my advice is just to stay on them constantly.

Thats nothing, i've had everything in my house replaced all the wires, modem, hell I even got a new computer. Guess what, same problem. But don't worry its on my end.

Hey everyone, I'm in starkville (current student) and my internet has been overall not too shabby. Metrofail does have its days though. :\ Anyway, in response to the sites to test the internet speed: i just got off the phone with a CS person. They said to use »speedtest.ms.metrocast.net/ instead of just speedtest.metrocast.net i'm paying for the 7mb/sec connection and i'm hittin 6.1 to 6.9mb/s every test. with the site they gave me.

I've been in Starkville for a while, but this school year is the first I've had to deal with MC. We have the 6MB/s plan, and when I do the speed test at speedtest.ms.metrocast.net I get ~6 MB/s, but I can only seem to get that kind of result from metrocast itself. Using speedtest.net I don't get that and just watching the bandwidth come in say from my own website or youtube or hulu I get maybe 50-60 KB/s down. Can anyone else attest to this? It certainly seems that I get better "actual" results during the day.

Its that time of the month where this junk never works right and CS is utterly useless, this is my currents with 10/1 gamer package.
