Re: WoWMatrix is Out of Action Any developer worth their salt from the start of a project would give credit, if they're not they're willing to do it again because it's expedient or they don't care. That makes them highly suspect and dubious at best. |

| Point taken. I'm really not sure how long they operated without the author info, but it went up really fast when WAU was cut off and people flocked there - myself included.
My biggest problem is the addon repo's being so split. You, as authors, should support one common repo and all this would go away. I was going to try the newest Curse client to compare how many addons are available via it, but alas it requires a curse login and I'm not creating one at this moment. Curse's client asked me for money before I even knew I *had* to have a curse.com account to test it out. Talk about a turn-off...
If we had a single repo to pull from, and you authors to upload to, a single site client would be sweet. Site operating costs would be easier to manage too as anyone worth their salt (or pepper) in IT knows server/service consolidation typically has a huge ROI.
It's probably for the better for WoWI and Curse's business plans to fail, then a new repo could rise from the ashes and have at least the majority of addon updates. My usual suspects are so split that about 5 out of 12 out of date pulled updates today with WoWMatrix - Meaning they aren't even on either of the two sites!!
It sucks that the authors are at the mercy of all this crap, it really does, but I really can't support Curse or WoWI myself. Aside from potential money for your addon development, assuming their revenue sharing stuff works out, I can't see why the authors support either of the two aside from lack of alternatives. -- Baka wa shinanakya naoranai |

| Personally I liked working much more off the ACE framework than anything. So, my addons went into the ace depository until I felt that they were release ready(curse) usually. With the new development system, the old beta/trunk system on wowace is dead, so you can get the full alpha>release versions off curse. That really only leaves two valid sites for all releases.
Curse or WoWI, I don't mind either and it comes down to a personal preference. However most developers have split things down into two things. If it's ace based you'll find it on Curse, if it's anything else it's on WoWI. If it's really popular, it's on both. It takes 10 seconds to setup an account and get yourself set to mirror.
Now the whole dual cost, etc thing I can see there being an issue with and really I see curse working much better as a development system since I was able to tag everything in the development/release stages as I wanted. Anywhere else I couldn't per se. Anyway, I never charged anything for my stuff, and I've abandoned everything to the community since I've defacto quit but I've updated everything for 3.1. If there's a minor bug or whatever I'll fix it but since I don't have time to play then there's not much of a point in continuing my addons.
Plus, I know if what I was writing was popular in any form, someone will pick it up from the abandonware point and start development on it again. |

How many people do you really think read all that info? A good portion probably just download, extract, and run it. |

A good portion probably just download, extract, and run it. Gee, I wonder why you wouldn't want to know why someone writes an addon. When there are 5 or 6 addons that are named exactly the same thing. Or how about those 25 extensions for X-addon? No? Oh...right.
On top of that, you might just maybe consider that people who do this free of charge, want a small bit of recognition for their time and effort. No, really? It's not that difficult to grasp now is it. |
