It has to. PS3 doesn't play Silverlight. Which is what Netflix uses for the web content it's delivering. Netflix used to use Flash but most people have been converted already to Silverlight.

That makes sense. I thought it was still Flash and I just assumed they created some sort of Flash proxy that would proxy the content to the DLNA device.

I've used other apps (like TVersity and Orb) that want to transcode everything and it destroys quality.
