| Think my Linksys has gone nuts.
I've been using a Linksys WRT310N for about a year now with my SpeedStream 5100. Today nobody on our local net can get out, and I couldn't start troubleshooting until I got home from work. Here's what I'm finding: 1.) The 5100 works fine. I can connect a PC directly to it and get out (hence the entry here in the forum). PPPoE is done on the modem. 2.) The modem will assign an IP address of 192.168.1.64 and subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 to whatever is connected to it (be it the router or the PC). It allocates IP address 192.168.0.1 to itself. 3.) The WRT310N gets that IP address and mask from the modem ok, per its status page. From the router, I can ping 192.168.0.1 and it shows a good connection. 4.) The WRT310N allocates itself IP address 192.168.1.1 on its LAN side, and allocates 192.168.1.100 and up to the other devices on the LAN. The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, though, and it won't let me change it to 255.255.0.0 ... it has a pull-down list, not a manual entry. A PC on the LAN side can ping the router, but not the DSL modem or anything on the other side of the modem.
I haven't done anything to the router. I'm not exactly a networking expert, but I'm suspecting that the subnet mask has gotten screwed up somewhere. The router seems to be working on both sides, but I'm not getting traffic across it.
Before I go and blow some money on a new router, does anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks. |

| reply to rtkeen One quick reminder about the reset button... hit it once, it resets.... Hold it in long enough, it will default to factory settings... Suggestion: Go into Linksys setup, and print out each page, so you have proof how it's configured... And write down the passwords and other data that print out ****
It's so much easier to troubleshoot a Linksys with documentation on how it was set-up, when you did it a couple years ago!!
