The new method allow Macs to access the "Watch Instantly" streaming video because of Silverlight, which is available on both OSes and multiple browsers. |

It's not open source, but MS doesn't charge a licensing fee for it. It's also superior to Flash (Flash in it's current form anyway) in every way imaginable minus ubiquity. Microsoft even worked with Novell to make sure it was developed for the Linux platform. (Moonlight)
Silverlight is absolutely a good direction for MS to take. |
