[POLL] Newsgroup Readers - 2009 Member Choice

Wikipeida: "A newsreader is an application program that reads articles on Usenet (generally known as newsgroup), either directly from the news server's disks or via the Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP).

There are several different types of newsreaders, depending on the type of service the user needs — whether intended primarily for discussion or for downloading files posted to the alt.binaries hierarchy. Although Usenet originally started as a message board without any file attachment ability, many Usenet users today do not participate in NNTP discussion groups and only use Newsgroups for downloading files such as music, movies, software and games."

Those interested in learning more about newsgroups should read Slycks Guide to Newsgroups. This is a beginners guide not only explaining how Usenet works, but also comparing Usenet Servers and software.

Please do not confuse Newsreaders with RSS Readers. Newsreaders or Usenet Clients are strictly for connecting and downloading from Newsgroups aka USENET.

"Other" has been omitted from the poll due to RSS Readers being voted for in previous polls.

Nice job on the poll Ryan!
Yikes...a lot of Newsgroup Readers!

However, I'm voting a lot of "none" these days.

Thanks for the poll!

Voted Forte Agent and currently using version 5.0. Also read some text newsgroups archived via Google Groups via the web.

I am currently using "knode" (a GUI newsreader), and "nn" (command line plain text newsreader).

I could not find either in the poll, and there was no "other" option, so I did not vote.

WOW!! I'm the only one using the Binary News Reaper? BNR2 does a great job for me allowing multiple feeds from multiple servers. Currently using nine feeds from three different news servers. It sure maxes out my pipe!

Grabit and Newsreactor, here. Only because I was using NewsReactor for years before paying up, and rather enjoy how simplified Grabit's interface is (as well as built-in parity and extraction methods).

I use the Opera reader and O.E. and also the Sage extension for Firefox.

You can export the different feeds in Opera and FF and use them in each browser.

Excellent poll, Ryan See Profile. I was wondering what other people were using these days.

For binaries I'm using Schemes Grabit, specifically GrabIt v1.7.2 ßeta 3.

For text, I find Thunderbird v2.0.0.21 to be the easiest/most intuitive, since I already use it as a mail client.

I selected Grabit in the poll.
