| Vista, Ca. RoadRunner Cable Signal Dropouts
»/linequality/nil/2512211 Lina Quality Vista, Ca. The packetLoss and droputs have been intolerable. The RoadRunner/Time Warner Techs have been out again and even put an Attenuator on the cable to the Cable Modem. The techs have always made sure I have the best cable and connectors and splitters. I even run a dedicated cable to the cable modem, and the Digital TV boxes run off another cable.
No matter whater I do and they do, the cable line quality has been nothing but lots of dropouts. I try to see if unplugging the cable modem and router for a few minutes, then plugging them back in will help. That does help for a while, then it all goes bad again, within a few hours.
But, like I said, the techs have always done their best to make sure all the cable and parts are proper and have the best connections and signals they can get. |

| • The packet loss is at your hop. Somewhere between your box and the CMTS.
• Can you post your signals?
• Have you tried it without the router?
• What specific issues do you have? MODEM loosing sync, slow page loads, etc ... ? -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |

some days often the signal to the modem drops out... the Time Warner tech said he measured a low signal.. other days it works fine.. you can see the yellow light on the modem will either show lots of activity or the light will hardly change and blink at an extremely low rate.
The dropouts are when it will not load a website, or load slowly. then it will load at a nornal speed and switch back and forth for hours... Modem loses connection with the Internet every few minutes... or can be good for hours or days with no problems..
It is as if the network has a problem.. My main computer is not wireless but 3 other computers in my house are wireless. The router is working fine..
The signals.. : Frequency 705000000 Hz
Signal To Noise Ratio 31.5 dB
Power Level -14.6 dBmV The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading
Upstream Value Channel ID 2 Frequency 29808000 Hz Power 36.0 dBmV |

2 edits | Your signals are not very good. I would call the ISP and tell them to get out here and fix it.
The CSR can run a ping test for latency and they can see what you MODEM signals are.
Don't assume anything at this point. The box, NIC, CAT5, the router etc ... are all in play. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |

I thought I made it clear, they were already out here 2 days ago and checked everything... they changed a connector that connects the house cable to the cable box on the street. They added an attenuator to the cable on the back of the cable modem. |

If you do not want to deal with them and live through it, that is your decision.

| reply to RamsteinUSA update: problems continued..
I called RoadRunner tech support, they came out again today, they put in a new cable modem. Again, still having problems that started just after the tech left my home.
I have lots and lots of disconnects/dropouts. I have a newer DI-624 Router. (I sent it in about a year ago for a replacement because the previous one had been giving problems with wireless distance on some of my wireless computers).
I have 4 computers in my house. I also have a new Trennet Router I used for only a few months, that was to make sure my D-Link is working fine. That one is currently not being used, it is a backup.
Test result just now: »/linequality/nil/2516826 |

| I disconnected my router. I am running my computer direct to the cable modem. I called RoadRunner. They ran tests to my modem. They said everything is fine. They gave me a ticket number. I will see what happens over the next few days. I wil see if I can gets some results before everyone gets home and have to connect my rotuer back up so everyone has Internet access here. We have 4 computers. |

1 edit | reply to RamsteinUSA I installed a signal booster, RCA brand ($40). The signal at the cable modem is now at -6db with the signal booster. It was between -11db and -9db, depending on when it was checked.
The cable company sent a tech out again, this tiime they found a crushed cable in the Cable street box. Apparently whoever was in the TW/RR street box last, crushed the cable with the lid. he fixed that cable. TW/RR gave me 12 months of RR Turbo upgrade free for 12 months. All is well. All seems fixed.
