DTMF problems with Vitelity

I thought I would post here to help others know about the DTMF problem I experienced with Vitelity and how the issue was "resolved."

I'm using G.711 for all my calls. I've got my Asterisk configured for "inband DTMF." Unfortunately Vitelity appears to only support RFC2833 DTMF on my inbound trunk and is unwilling to change their configuration to send me "inband DTMF."

The default configuration from Vitelity sends RFC2833 DTMF to me with a length of zero milliseconds for each digit. I sure can't understand why they do this. As you might expect, this causes a problem when trying to access comedian voicemail remotely.

I put in a ticket with Vitelity asking them to set me up for "inband." They were unwilling to do this. What they did do was to move me to another inbound host which does send RFC2833 with digits of 100ms length. This did work with Comedian mail on my Asterisk.

I'm still not completely pleased with this solution as I have had problems in the past with "talk off" where female voices are detected as DTMF which is converted into RFC2833 messages. However, I figure I'll give this solution a try. In Google searching for DTMF issues with Vitelity, they appear to be common. Most other posters seem to give up and change to another provider for inbound trunks. I am perplexed by Vitelity's lack of flexibility in configuring my trunks. I was pleased that they did work on this issue after normal work hours and did give me a workable, but not ideal, solution in just a few hours time.
