Re: New Shed

I think it is the Marco series.

I finally got tired of the pieces and started putting it together this weekend. It wasn't too bad. I put together the floor, the front and back walls and the framing for the side walls. This took 4-5 hours, and probably another 4 or so to put all the pices in place and put the walls and roof in place.

If you put it on a slab, I think it automatically requires a permit. We did the deck pier thing. Seems to be fine.

We bought a shed from HD about a month ago, and it's still sitting in pieces in my garage as I have about the same patience/time as you do. It was $699 for a 10x10 wood shed (wife requirement), and our carpenter/handyman was quoting about $400 to put it together until we got to a sticking point about the foundation. We don't have a slab to put it on, and digging out a base and bringing in gravel is a pain. I think we are going to put it on deck "piers" or whatever they call the concrete blocks that hold up the wood off the ground.

Any follow up on this? What did you decide to go with?
We are at the same crossroads. We are throwing up a privacy fence and decided to level the existing garage, get a new slab and instead of a new garage are opting for a shed.
We can only fit on car in the garage as it is now and never use it. At least with a slab we can get both vehicles on the slab at once and not have to move a car at 5am so someone can get out of the driveway.

Im looking at Home Depot and their home services because I simply do not have time or patience to put it up myself. They are generally pretty pricey though.

It is the only door. We don't have lawn machines or anything. It's mainly just to store miscellaneous yard tools and stuff. That's also why we put only a regular door in instead of a wide one. And also why there isn't a ramp. And why it's kind of on the small side (8x12). Hopefully the next buyers won't mind too much.

It was about $3,500.00. The cement board was a little more expensive than the cedar (added about $300).

One feature you can't tell from the pictures is how he did the stucco texturing on the upper white portions. Overall we're very pleased. Our neighbors like it as well, which is a relief since you never know what reactions will be to something like this.

Wow nice! I bet that was pricey.
Is that the only door though?

We had a small but pretty (I think) custom shed made. It was a little expensive but not too much more than the better ones you get at the hardware store, but very nice.

It was framed out exactly like a real house and then we had Hardie cement board siding put on it. You can get cedar siding or whatever else you want. The cement siding matched our house, so we went with that. We then had shingles and stucco board and paint put on to match the exterior of our house. Initially we were going to go with the precolored Hardie siding, but it was going to take too long and we didn't want to wait. We also have three windows on it and window boxes and a cupola.

I'll put some pictures out if you want. The person who built it was very nice and did some extra for us at no charge. He is (was?) a laid off union carpenter.

The wife won't go for anything but wood, so we are looking to have one built.

What kind of shed? metal? wood? a kit? from scratch?

If i were to put a shed in my yard I'd get one of those rubbermaid expandable ones. They're not that expensive and they're plastic so they pretty much zero maintenance.
Not necessarily all that attractive though.

Anyone have any good recomendations for someone to build a shed in Naperville?

Thanks!
