free modem

I guess Omaha is doing the free upgrade also.

Dear Cox High Speed Internet Subscriber,

I am pleased to inform you that Cox Communications is offering you a FREE new modem for your Cox High Speed Internet service. This FREE new modem will increase your internet speed and enhance your online experience.

Why are we doing this? It's simple - Cox has enjoyed offering internet service to the Omaha metro area for more than 10 years. In that time the speed of Internet service Cox provides has increased many times. Unfortunately, the technological advances driving those speed increases make certain modems obsolete. The modem you currently have is outdated and will no longer be supported.

We value you and your trust in us as your Internet provider of choice. So, we would like to give you a FREE new modem so you may enjoy all of the speed and benefits as a Cox High Speed Internet customer. Cox will ship the modem directly to your home, at no charge to you, with instructions on how to install it. It should arrive within the next 7 to 10 days via Fed Ex ground delivery service. It's really that simple.

To avoid any interruption of your Internet service, please connect the new modem before May 22, 2009. The modem will be set up and activated for your account. We are offering this FREE modem for a limited time to qualifying customers only (modem is not transferable, and can not be used at another address).

Thank you for continuing to be a Cox customer and enjoy your new modem. If you have any questions please call us at 763-1072.

doesn't say if they will automatically send it or if we need to call and request it. I thought other threads mentioned a link to order the replacement.

Since it says "it should arrive in the next 7 to 10 days"

I would take that as you need to do nothing and it will show up at your door!

I wonder if we will see any improvement. The dlink is docsis 2.0, but they retired it. I wonder what modem Omaha will send?

it also says We are offering this FREE modem for a limited time to qualifying customers only

What modem do you have? When I moved 2 years ago Cox suggested that I get a new modem since I was still using my SB3100 from 2000. They sent out a SB5120 and I can get great speeds with it (when the network isn't congested and my speed crawls along).

Qualifying Customer is probably:
Customer with preferred or higher using a modem no longer on the supported modems list!

do you have tv and phone through cox also? We do that plus always being on preferred since we got CHSI is most likely why we get the free modem.

if the new modem is supposed to be setup on my account I wonder why it's not showing up in internet tools yet? I don't have it yet, but ou would think if it's already tied to the account it should show up in internet tools.

Foreal you need to just relax, if they are sending you one, you will get it when you get it, and no sooner then that. Your not gunna lose service, so quit worrying so much. If they don't have the modem setup and ready once you hook it up and all. then its a simply call CS and they will either ask you for numbers off the modem, or they will just see the modem from your address trying to connect and take what they need off it, so whenever it does get disconnected or dropped, it will reboot without problem
