This is as blatant of an attempt to manipulate the judicial system as I've ever seen in the "civilized" world, third world countries excluded. |

Did the copyright industry appoint* the judge to the bench? Did the copyright industry assign this case to the judge in question? Is the copyright industry really even a party to this case? No to all three.
The copyright industry was obviously on the side of the prosecution, but the case was the state vs the pirate bay operators, not the copyright industry vs. pirate bay operators. What they did or did not know was immaterial as they weren't a named party in the criminal case. If it was a private case between them and pirate bay then you would have a point.
And no, I do believe they knew the judges association. They just didn't say anything because they were never asked and they didn't have to. And if this really is "as blatant attempt to manipulate the judicial system as [you]'ve ever seen", you obviously have never seen cases were a judge, a witness, or jury has been blackmailed or bribed by an interested party.
There has yet to be any evidence shown that the judge is corrupt, rather he appears to be just biased. Both corruption or bias may lead to the same eventual outcome that a mistrial is declared, one is legally wrong and one is ethically wrong.
* - or however else a individual becomes a judge in the Swedish legal system. |
