testimonial from iphone user

Macs were the first computers I owned. From the Apple IIe to the last Mac I purchased, the PowerPC 6200 for about $2500 at the time. Since then, I've been building my own windows based computers and haven't gone back to apple simply because it's expensive and I can't justify spending that much money for a pc.

As for the iPhone, I've had it since it first came out. I purchased the iPhone 3g last summer for the full retail price and am now eligible to upgrade to the new iPhone this summer. I'm definitely going for it.

I've noticed all of the complaints about the iPhone including signal problems and call drops, etc, etc..., the list goes on. As a technical person who's been using iPhones for a long time, I have no complaints about it. It's the best device I've used and will continue to use it. My only complaint isn't with apple or the iphone, but with the total costs involved with ATT's prices which are ridicuously high.

For me, and many others who do not lurk the internet forums, the iPhone has done what I wanted it to do. Calls are great, internet is great and it's easy to use. I knew what this phone could do and I knew what I was buying. I'm a very satisfied customer of the iPhone.

I get people (including friends) who put down the iPhone when they see me using it saying how it "sucks", battery life sucks, etc. I sat at a restuarant with a friend of mine with a Blackberry Curve, both us of with ATT. He lost his connection completely, and I had 3 bars of 3g. So I turned to him and said "I thought the iPhone reception sucks?" He just laughed and had no reply.

It doesn't bother me. I'm satisfied and that's all that matters. If other people prefer other phones, I don't feel the need to put them down. It's their choice. Bottomline, it's about having something we want and if it puts a smile on our face, then who's to tell us otherwise?

Re: testimonial from iphone user

I agree. I have had my iPhone 3g/16 for 6 months now, and love it. I don't consider it a phone. It's more of a computer.

I use it's Inet access all the time for ssh access to servers, to Youtube, to access all 6 of my email accounts.

It's my NYC Bus/Subway guide with transit delay information and directions. On a recent car trip the GPS/Google Maps came in handy to pinpoint my location and get driving directions. I use Flixter to pick movies and see trailers, and coupled with the GPS I can see what theaters are in the area, as well as where to eat afterward --- just tap the phone number in the listing, and it calls. This is one magnificent piece of technology.

What's even better it's the first "phone" I don't have to keep switching between my reading and distance glasses to read the BIG screen.

I have transferred a ton of music CDs to it as well, and have about 4 days of music, arranged in many "play-lists" about 8GB worth.

It's also my alarm clock, my calendar, to-do reminder, food shopping list, not to mention tide and weather information. It also plays a damn good game of chess. There is an app for just about anything you can do with a laptop.

I like the non-mechanical keyboard with big keys, they fit by big fingers! The camera isn't bad either, it takes pretty good pictures.

At a friends house last weekend I was asked if I had seen Susan Boyle, no! I googled and found and watched the Youtube video.

This is quite an impressive little computer, I can see why it sells so well despite it's price.

I agree, I love my iPhone. It is the first phone I really can be excited about. Even my wife likes hers.

With the 3.0 update it will be that much better. People like what they like, it is what it is.

You know, I am sure there are other SmartPhones which are just as awsome technically. What makes iPhone super special is the availability of so many applications. The APPS make this phone!

Correct. I have found the phone piece to not be any worse that my past phones.
The camera is decent, but I still think my Sony Ericsson with the self focusing lens won that battle.

For me the kicker is not having a really watered down web browser like I did with my Blackberry Curve. I like seeing the pages for the most part they way they are meant to be seen.

And you are correct, that apps are what makes it. I used the DirecTv app this morning to record the Holmes on Homes series. My wife loves to play Bookworm on the PC, and the iTunes version is just like the regular game. The Maps app has saved me in times when my GPS in the car could not find the address. Sportstacular is great for following the Red Sox, etc. One of my favorites is Nasa's APOD-Astronomy Picture of the Day-fantastic.

Exactly.

I personally like Windows Mobile over everything else. Mostly because of how highly customizable it is and how you can get a bunch of free apps to do anything you'd do on a PC. But of course, to each his own.

The iPhone is definitely a great device, and I can see why most people would prefer it over the competition. Will that change when the Palm Pre comes out? I don't know.

No need to put other people's stuff down like you said.

"Fanboyism" is pretty sad, really.

Re: testimonial from iphone user

Agreed. I love the iPhone. There are a couple of shortfalls in the enterprise Exchange integration ATM, but nothing that couldn't be added to the device in the future (and hope they do).

Prior to having an iPhone, I was using WinMo 6, and I went through the whole customize it route with the software as well. At the end of the day, I just think WinMo handled the Exchange better, but the iPhone did everything else better...and was close on the Exchange.

I like the "iPhone isn't a good phone" critique on this thread. The main reason I didn't like WinMo was the phone seemed like an afterthought (stylus to dial anyone?).

:)
I never needed to actually pull out the stylus to dial a number, but I know what you mean...I use my winmo phone mostly for e-mail/SMS, running apps to manage my servers and things like that. Actually calling people isn't my primary use.

HTC has stepped up to make things more finger friendly with their Touch Flow 3D stuff, and WinMo 6.5 is a big step in that direction too.

I personally don't mind using a stylus by the way.

I think the main thing about the iPhone is that right out of the box, it can already kick butt.

Sure in my opinion (and for my needs), my HTC Touch pro is way better, but I had to mess with it in order to get there

Yeah I know all WinMo carrier branded OS is not the same, but T-Mo had a horrible dialer skin on the MDA that only utilized about 1/2 the already small screen for a keypad. You had to either dial from contacts, or use a stylus for numbers not in your contact list.

I installed an earlier version of the Touch OS, but the MDA was underpowered hardware to begin with, so I had many stability problems.

My only complaint isn't with apple or the iphone, but with the total costs involved with ATT's prices which are ridicuously high.
And why are AT&T's total prices so high? To pay for the ridiculously high premiums Apple demands for an exclusive contract.

Were both phones on the AT&T network or otherwise receiving their signal from the same cell tower? If not an apples to apples comparison as your tower might have been right next to the restaurant and his tower could be 5 miles away.

My experience has been basically the opposite. I have a T-Mobile G1 and my boss has a iPhone on AT&T. About 200 yards away on the road in front of our office, I can get a perfect signal, but if she is in the middle of a call, it WILL be dropped. It's a complete dead zone for her. However both of us are picking up our signal from the same tower.

It doesn't bother me. I'm satisfied and that's all that matters. If other people prefer other phones, I don't feel the need to put them down. It's their choice. Bottomline, it's about having something we want and if it puts a smile on our face, then who's to tell us otherwise?
I was just talking with a friend about this last night. I'm a .Net developer, so I'm obviously tied to Microsoft products mainly. He doesn't have an iPhone, but he does have a Touch and a iMac. We rib each other over Apple vs. PC or iPhone vs. G1 but it's in jest. We both agreed that people should use what ever they want to use and makes them happy. And as long as it works for them, nothing else really matters.

Of course my G1 is still obviously better then your iPhone, but that goes without saying.
