Re: Just as I expected

You buy your Dell and I'll build the same computer for less than what you're going to spend. I can aslo buy a Mac Clone Desktop for $599

Good for you, here's a cookie. Meanwhile with Dell shipping 2.5GHz/3GB/500GB Pent dual-core machines for $349 including 1 year in home service and the Windows license, I doubt it. The unsupported OEM license alone is $100 and then you still are left to put it together. Even their sub $1K i7-920 deals are difficult to duplicate without cutting corners like going with a crap chassis.

The only benefit to BYO is you get to choose the exact parts you want in the form factor you want. Rarely if ever can you BYO cheaper than an OEM like Dell or HP can.

it is possible. Have you ever heard wholesale companies? That only sell to OEMs? Where you can get a 1TB HDD for $250? I doubt it.

OEM licenses are also only $50 with the company. Just because the retail prices are higher don't except EVERYONE pays that.

Plus who wants a paperweight from dell? when you get the POS you have to reformat it to take their shit off. Like their "remote desktop" client. Who wants to their OEM to have access anytime they want to their computer? I don't.

Sure, I'm sure someone could steal a machine out the back door of a Best Buy. Free would sure be a hard price point to beat.

The VAST MAJORITY of people don't have access through a wholesaler, have a resale permit or otherwise get some backdoor deal on parts. The best the VAST MAJORITY of people can do is Newegg/ZZF/Fry's it or pick it off eBay. Just because you can swing some special deal doesn't mean everyone can. Mike and Steve aren't worried about losing your sale so enjoy your cookie and give your high horse a rest.

They never gained my sale to start off with so they never lost anything. As far as being on a high horse no i'm not. I just stated what could be done. Most companies do not require a resell permit and all you have to do is go to the Feds and get an EIN and by pass the state. Easy as 1 2 3 on the IRS.gov website and get the EIN number in minutes via email. Not big deal there.

So you can't say the vast majority doesn't have access, its just they want the easy way out and then get suckered into Dell's over priced machines after the sales reps talk the customers into shit they don't need and lie to them.

An business Fedeal Taxpayer ID number (employer ID number) is not a resale permit. Resale permits are issued by state franchise tax boards and wholesalers like MA Labs require it. And even with MA Labs pricing, I can't beat the price of a pre-packaged Dell.

Show me these resellers selling VHP SP1 OEM for $50 that you claim are so easily gotten.

The fact is that it can't be done or budget machine makers like Dell would be already doing it.

yep thats why you keep editing your posts

and if you don't think they're that cheap call dell up and ask them how much they pay for theirs and where they but them at. I'll tell you they don't pay over $50 for them. Also MSFT has their own reseller program you can join as well.

Cause they buy them 100000's of units at a time and that is the only way they're getting them for $50. Again, the VAST majority of people including you don't buy them 1000's of units at a time and the super discount resellers only mark up a few points over the 1000 unit prices they're paying from suppliers like Intel.

Dell's margins (about 5%) are public record and you aren't going to beat it.

So what you claim is if you spend tens of millions as a major distributor or OEM with vendors like Microsoft and Intel, you can beat Dell on their $350 machine. Brilliant logic.
