U-Verse is FTTP?

I thought U-Verse was only Fiber to the Node? According to: »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-verse

Its also FTTP?

Most U-Verse Customers are FTTN

FTTP does exist, mainly for New Construction

Both flavors are out there & exist

For the lucky few its FTTP

But the FTTN service is just fine also.

FTTN is better, ONT Burns out to much.

As far as downloading a webpage, is there a noticeable difference between FTTN and FTTP?

Currently you won't notice a difference since all services are capped at 25megs. In the long run FTTP is better, case in point Verizon.

I'm one of those 'lucky' FTTP customers.

From a functionality standpoint, FTTP is no better then FTTN because AT&T chooses to not differentiate their service offerings.

From a reliability standpoint, I don't have any experience with my ONT burning out ( I've had it for 2 years now; knock on wood.)

I do know that between my structured wiring ( 2 Cat 5E drops per 8 rooms ) and my optical rather then RF trasnport, that I don't have any of the issues that a traditional brownfield deployment would have. I don't worry about things like SN/ATTN and corrupted packets. I don't worry about any of the house wiring issues; it just works.

So I don't have statistics to back this up, but I'd would assume that FTTP is more reliable then FTTN, not less reliable.

There is only one true benefit of FTTP over FTTN as of now: Much better latency. But only the hard-core gamer crowd is that sensitive to latency differences.

I have only ever been on one FTTP repair, and when I arrived, everything was working as it was supposed to.

Granted I have only done 3 FTTP installs, but still, there seems to be a lot less issues with FTTP IMHO.

eh, not quite. light and RF are both types of electromagnetic radiation. »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromag···spectrum

that would be freaky 3 foot wide eyes

point is as far as light and rf go there both pretty much the same just the frequency that's different

in the case of visble light the frequncy is around 790–400 terahertz

the main benafit is that the higher frequency of visble light can transmit more information

speaking of which i wonder if someday we will find a way of sending information in Ultraviolet light though a wire that would be even more bandwith

I thought the "American electrons, or a frickin' sissy little beam of LIGHT?" remark was clever!

If my physics professor were dead... he would be truing in his grave now.

I made a comment along the same lines as sound, vibration, light, and rf are all the same...

He freaked out and gave the class a 2hr lecture on how its not.... and he was convincing.

I didn't know the latency was better on FTTP. I thought it still did vdsl spec just over fiber instead and was still interleaved. What kind of latency do FTTP customers see?

Almost zero.

Seriously, the normal ping in my area for a VDSL customer to Chicago speedtest.net servers is ~25 ms. For a FTTP customer, it is ~4 ms. Much quicker pings.
