1 edit | Making the move to more Canopy
GOing to stick up another 5.2 Advantage ap with regulr 5200 SU's I was doing a test here on the bench all units wide open for speed.
I had the AP set to 75% and when I did a speed test from radio to ap I was getting almost 10 meg down and abotu 3-4 meg up??? I thought the 5200 SU old style could only do 7 meg aggragate? How was it getting 10 meg down? I had it set to hardware and x2 setting on the ap and SU.
Here is our other AP if I remember this is a regular non advanage one correct? The advantage says hardware 10

| reply to Equis Thanks equiis that makes sense. Is there a spot in the config to adjust the burst rate and for how long? I did not think to look? -- ComTrain Certified Tower Climber. American Tower Certified approved contractor. Wireless consultants. |

| reply to viperm I also just noticed on one of our Canopy 900 units hooked to a canopy CMM that the GPS info does not show up on the AP? is it supposed to I think all our AP's show this when you log into them? If it is supposed to what are we doing wrong or what do we need to check? We see sync on the AP and we log into the CMM and show sync and multi sat lock etc. I thought it was supposed to pass the data to the ap's

| reply to viperm GPS information won't show up unless you are suppling Sync over the timing (RJ14) port. Sync over the power/ethernet/RJ45 port doesn't carry the GPS text that gives you the information (but it is still sending the pulse, don't worry).
Canopy 5200SM with a 5250AP will burst up to 14Mbps by default. The 'bit bucket' is 500000kbits or about 64MB.
You can go to the Quality of Service tab on the SM and change the bit bucket for up and down if you like, then burst will only happen for that many kbits.
You cannot control how HIGH the burst rate goes on Canopy, it will simply go as fast as possible, sharing the bandwidth among other current SM transfers.
You can stop bursting altogether though by setting it equal to your MIR rate up/down on that same page.
Welcome to Canopy!!
You should probably download the 8.2.7 and 9.4 firmware packages along with the latest firmware tool, CNUT and get those units upgraded!! |

| reply to viperm I agree we need to upgrade the firmware. We have had 900 Canopy for some time now about 2 years and some older 5.2 stuff.
Some complaints from some customers on our 2.4 stuff we just upgraded to all mikrotik AP's / routers propmpted us to move to canopy. The move to Mikrotik Ap's / routers from usign Tranzeo ap's and teletronics roters helped in miles but face it 802.11 is still 802.11. Since we are going to start to roll out VOIP soon I want to do it using Canopy since we can get used SU's pretty cheap now compared to new. So all voip customers or sqeaky wheels will get a 5.2 SU
I notice on the NEW firmware there is an option for "schedule whitening" on the radio section? I have never heard of this so if anyone has a laymens term or explanation I am all ears.
On the SU what does 2x mean?? I turned it on for this 11.3 mile link.. -- ComTrain Certified Tower Climber. American Tower Certified approved contractor. Wireless consultants. |

| reply to viperm Schedule Whitening is to help with false positives on DFS radar sensing. If you turn it on you need everything to be on firmware version 8.2 or higher or SM's will no longer register. If you turn it on make sure all AP's in the 5GHz have it on as well.
2x mode is 14Mbps aggregate throughput instead of just 7Mbps (which means you can burst on the regular 5200SM units).
To enable High Priority for VoIP in Canopy you click on the High Priority under QoS and then save settings. Then you see a high priority CIR (which might be good to give it something like 50-90kbps each way if you like).
If you can, it would be VERY helpful for you at this stage to attend the Motorola Technical training course for Canopy. All of this stuff is explained in detail over 5 days, three of which are probably core for someone like you making the switch (Tues-Thurs CPT200 and CTP300).
The next one is in Dallas in May.
The entire schedule can be found here:
It's not free, or even cheap, but it gets you to proficiency in Canopy faster than any other method I know of. |

1 edit | reply to viperm Sweet thanks for the info I have worked with Canopy on another network abotu 2 years ago which was all canopy. I remember most the stuff but things have changed.
I know you cant upgrade unless you have certain min revisions I assume thats what you meant when you said donwload 8.27 and 9.4 etc.
I must bring up to min 8.27 first before going to 9.4?
I think I even have previous versions on my laptop from the old network just in case.
Tyring to download the latest revsions but looks liek the site chas changed to only allow download of firmware if you pay for a subscription now? This is new I Can downlaod Cut but nothing else but PDF's of release notes? I used ot be able to just register my E-mail address and it let me a while back???

1 edit | reply to viperm Okay I have acces now again but its much different How I got in was using my E-mail address and the mac address of the Canopy AP we just put in. If I rememebr correctly isnt the firmware the same for SM and AP's? I wanted to make sure but it says the mac address from the 5.2 SM we put up is expired and I need to call to activate a support subscription etc. We have had this 25 pach of sm's sitting for over a year now must be why?
Which ones do I choose from I have the option of a list of software from the following..
PMP 500 Series (3.5 OFDM) Software Dont think this one is it
PMP 100/200 and PTP 100 series (FSK) Software I think its this one.
PMP 400 and PTP 200 Series (5.4 OFDM) Software Nor this one? -- ComTrain Certified Tower Climber. American Tower Certified approved contractor. Wireless consultants. |

2 edits | reply to viperm Thanks gerard I downloaded all DES packages and CMM for any future updates..
I am having one issue with a single AP 5.7 Advantage I keep getting this error when trying to upgrade to 8.27 from 7.29
Message: Cannot upgrade: burnfile Failed. Output from Telnet session: burnfile Burn Boot from file: APboot.bin Validating Boot File... fread() of BootHdr failed File:APboot.bin is not a valid image file Telnet+> ( SITE= 5.7 AP )
It gets to the programming stage then craps out says completed with the error above??
UPDATE.. I have found a couple more SM that do the same thing I even tried to upgrade with old CNUT to 7.3.6 from 7.3.9 No go? Other Aps with 7.2.9 and SM with 7.2.9 upgrade to 8.2.7 then 9.4 just fine? |
|
keefe007 Premium join:2004-02-24 Germantown, WI | reply to viperm Make sure you follow the right upgrade path from the 9.4 release notes.
Could any of those APs or SMs that aren't upgrading be setup for software scheduling instead of hardware scheduling? |

| reply to viperm I tried to upgrade both these units to 7.3.6 and or 8.2.7 all return the same error abotu burn file..
I verified all units are hardware schedule on?
Any other thoughts? -- ComTrain Certified Tower Climber. American Tower Certified approved contractor. Wireless consultants. |

IntraLink Premium,MVM join:2002-08-14 Utah Valley | reply to viperm Maybe try rebooting those units again for good measure then upgrading again.
Sometimes they just need a 'refresh' I've noticed. |

| reply to viperm Okay for all of us who use Canopy and run into the burnfile issue above I figured out a way around the issue not sure why it happens on some units AP or SM's
I played around and used passive FTP in CNUT to upload the file to these problem units and they upgraded just fine.
I still tried to upgrade from 8.2.7 to 9.0.4 via cnut the regular way it still gave the same error so I am not sure why it happens but I guess I am going to have to do any future upgrades this way on units with this issue. -- ComTrain Certified Tower Climber.
