TDS, best of the worst.

Hi, I've been a subscriber to TDS for about 6 years now, not really by choice but because it's them or SBC/ATT or Time Warner who to me are a non option to me. This leaves TDS Metrocom the best of the worst in Racine, WI.

Issues start with the long list of outages from bad DSL Modems that kept overheating when placed in open air, even when hanging mid air under an open sided desk. I managed to get the packet loss and disconnections stopped by having TDS lower my connection speed from list speed for their $25 tier which was at the time 1Mbps/512Kbps to something like 768/256. They refused to discount my service and claimed that the problems where caused by bad wiring on the phone line, so I got the landlord to rerun line just for the DSL since he is remodeling the apartment below mine.

I also used to have a number for their offices in Madison, which would connect to the tier 2 techs and above directly, but I lost the paper and now have to go through the tier 1 script reader monkeys that do nothing but waste my time with issues I know they can't fix because they are above the level of things they have written down for them.

The TDS web site is also now impossible to find any information at all, it also doesn't think I can have DSL when I've had it for years. You can't even see current pricing tiers or contact info aside from a half broken email form that probably connects directly to /dev/null.

Which modems have you had that overheated?

See if you can get an 724 - mine has been rock solid for over a year without issue.
