Motorola 5101 ethernet doesn't work but usb does?

I can not ping nor access my modem over my ethernet cable. I tried different cables still doesn't work. I had it hooked up through ethernet for a year and all was fine. Now it will only work hooked up to usb. Can an ethernet port just quit working? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
