That still does not prevent hotlinking, though it does make it a bit more convenient for the user. |

See the next two posts after yours. I timed it. Took me 42 seconds to post the first one. (not counting going back and deleting it from the desktop afterwards) 12 to post the second one. Hell, it was even quicker than adding the [img] tags. If the functionality was there, I would use it over [img] tags to hotlink. |

| reply to Weirdal I am neutral on this as I have posted few images.
And those that I have posted, I have done the following:
1. They are my Photos 2. I select what I wish to post and move/put those in a folder on my desktop. 3. I then use a program to resize using a program like Irfanview. 4. Then I upload using the site's features. -- Darn, its gettin that time to go to Wallymart to gits me picture taken agin.

It makes DSLR responsible for the use of copyrighted material and not the poster.
Also making it too easy would just proliferate useless images. -- ****aka The WIZARD *** A Founding member of Seti BBR Team Starfire*** |

I think most of the objectors don't understand what they're voting on.
Of course it prevents hot linking -- it is essentially caching a single copy of the image, just as the normal user-upload would do. And since it's being performed by the poster it makes the poster responsible.
It's a pain in the butt and rather silly to have to download, name, upload, and then delete a temporary image.
This is a great idea. Since when is "making it easy" to use the DSLR forums a bad thing?

It invites, even encourages, posters to take copyrighted images by making it simpler to do. Should it bother me I can do something about hotlinks to my website images. I can't do anything when someone takes an image file.

Should it bother me I can do something about hotlinks to my website images. I can't do anything when someone takes an image file. That's just silly in my opinion. By that argument they should just turn off the ability to upload any attachments, most HTML, YouTube embedding, etc. Not to mention that you're simply assuming that most or all of the images would have restraints against such redistribution. If your web site is not intended to be viewed then don't make it public -- do you take similar issue with Google and Wayback Machine caching?
