Craziness

People would be crazy to go back to dial-up considering how many websites are built on flash.

And you need a land line for dial-up and with VoIP and cells a lot of people have no land line.

Considering the sheer evolutionary factor of the internet as of late, Dial-up can't even come close to supporting todays websites.

"Crazy" for most of the audience here, and anyone else that can't live without viewing media on the web.

Considering there is really a whole population out there that wasn't raised on technology and/or don't need the web to live their lives happily, I could see the downgrade for light users, budget conscious or not (Hi Grandma!). Mail on dial up is adequate, informational sites (bank, government forms, etc) don't use media - Even flash sites, that know what's good for them, still include a link to skip flash.

I went on a low budget diet myself a few years ago and backed down to 'gulp' dial-up. I was rarely home as it was, and it was enough to get mail and any occasional larger downloads were multi-tasked with things like coffee fetching and sleeping. All else I downloaded at work.

I don't see this as a major trend, but it happens even with the sane.

Ok, so let's say 1 out of 100 have needs similar to what you describe. Not the type of interest the ISPs will likely force their marketing efforts towards.

Yeah... Tell me about it.. Though as in ATT's commercial says.. " Theres no reason not to switch to FastAccess Dsl!!"" And they are right.. Assuming your covered by their service.. Rest of us have to hope cable is in the area or that the tree's are too tall/thick for wireless...

I would rather stick hot needles in my eyeballs than go back to dialup, as it would be less painful.

Not to mention the d/l speed of ONE windoze update. It might take three years to download.

You must have caught up on your sleep, and then some.

I agree, it's a small market. I just don't see it as really crazy for anyone to do it though. Marketing for this is more wishful thinking, but what else have they got? A bad economy and hopes all those with copper would drop from dsl. Or, maybe it's a publicity stunt........ Got us talking.
