Vista blocks boinc start-upWhy does vista block boinc from starting after the pc is turned off? Or if their is a power outage?
It says windows has blocked start-up programs requiring administrative privileges. The only provided option is to allow it, but only until the next power outage. I have Boinc set for all users. Does it have to run as a service? I "think" I have defender disabled, at least it's disabled on start-up.
This is on my mom's remote pc which I try to manage with team viewer.
PS: I hate VISTA... #*&%@!#$%&* (You prolly can't read this 'cause it's french.) |

Yup.. you need the newer version of BOINC. I am running 6.2.19 and I don't have that problem. Vista is really "smart" and only let's programs start that it feels are safe.. and if it thinks it's not safe, there is absolutely no getting around this besides disabling UAC, which I personally have no desire to do. » support.microsoft.com/kb/930367 |

Try the upgrade first, my way is good for me because of my "layered" approach. And I do this security stuff all day For Mom, might be best to get the updated client and see if it works ok |

UAC kills Boinc on my wife's Vista lappy too. Even kills the latest Boinc. Of course UAC kills every other program she tries to run as well, so it got chucked immediately. |

Thanks lil and dersgniw One problem fixed with update, only tha' phantom knows what's next. That wing-doosy tinker-toy came on a factory pc, glad I build my own. Me thinks it's another conundrum. Do people actually pay real money for that VooDoo stuff ? . . . EDIT: I always forgets spell-check. I gonna edit as many times as it takes me to spell conundrum right. |

FWIW Win7 runs BOINC with UAC enabled or disabled. I still hate dislike UAC with a passion so I disabled it anyway. After disabling it my desktop gadgets quit working. Why UAC would disable that is beyond me. One of our resident windows gurus (Auggy) showed me a workaround so all is well. Hope they fix that in the RC. And Ray, I'm with you. Vista _ _ _ _ _. Also when installing Boinc you have to install it with access for all user and not in the protected mode option. They changed the option from a default of protected mode in some earlier versions to all users in 6.2.20. |
