it's time that Charter goes away permanently. i only hope that they do get chopped up. |

Just really horrible customer service on top of service that barely is working and they tell you to restart your modem like 5000 times. -- The Internet is about to go down....it is actually. |

HpowerRoflmao join:2000-06-08 Glendale, CA | Oh yea time warner is waaaaaaaaaay better than when I had charter. The only 1 issue I had with timewarner roadrunner cable was that my cable modem went kaput. They replaced it the next day and I was back to my full speed of 10/1mbps. No complaints at all. -- The Internet is about to go down....it is actually. |

HpowerRoflmao join:2000-06-08 Glendale, CA | Who would want to buy them anyway? What's the benefit of buying a bankrupt cable company? I can think of territory wise, expanding your network, but you'd be sunking in huge amounts of debt. -- The Internet is about to go down....it is actually. |

more terratory also means better rates on programing costs and many other stuff |

| reply to morbo I use to work for Charter many years ago on the HSI side of things. I knew then that something like this was only a matter of time. Charter's network is horrible (at least it was on the west coast), the employees are treated like crap and I was very glad to be moving on. One of the worst companies I ever worked for and I am glad to see this. |

 | reply to morbo I wouldn't really mind if they 'go away', but i don't see being gobbled up as good for consumers. I know cable companies typically have a regional monopoly (ignoring satelite, fios tv, uverse tv), but i just don't like the idea of having big 3 (or whatever it is). I suppose i don't have much to worry about if telco based cable tv services take off and i'm in an area where that is an option. |

 | reply to freebird317 I would hate to see them go Charter has provided good service in my area |

|
 | It's not good for customers the only other provider in my area is ATT and Uverse is not in my area yet. Like I said I've had good service with them I could most likely deal with Comcast but not Time Warner |

 | reply to jeffro Everyone keeps talking about Comcast ending up with parts of Charter. What I don't get is how does Comcast get around the 30% market share if they don't win their FCC fight. Maybe that will be how they get out of the 30% market cap. You remove your (Comcast)cap and upgrade to Docsis 3 and we will remove our (FCC)cap. |

I hated the place and how we were treated there. |

Its very hard not to make a profit with franchise territory or spectrum. You will always have a minimum level of customers. I think most of Charter is outside VZ/FIOS, so it has a captive audience. Even where Uverse supposedly exists, ATT wires only the easiest, most residential, highest income blocks, MDUs, old urban area, retail/professional/industrial areas, and underground fed areas (unless a cul-de-sac subdivision) are unlikely to ever get Uverse. An existing cable company has access to all those non-Uverse areas. |

1 edit | reply to zed260 That depends, the programing cost come down with more subsribers.. - IIRC, a higher up at TWC mentioned that they could lower programing costs by 1/9th if they bought Charter.
(The CEO or CFO of TWC said Charter was expensive- [It is, based on debt load per consumer.])
There are obvious benefits for being able to purchase equipment in bulk, (which could easily be millions of dollars for convertor boxes, cable modems etc.)It helps drive the cost down. |
