Protected Mode (Extra Protection Mode) NOTE: In most situations, best performance (throughput) is achieved with Protected Mode OFF. If you are operating in an environment with HEAVY 802.11b traffic or interference, best performance may be achieved with Protected Mode ON.
I leave it on.. You all going to have different environments where you are at right now. |

| reply to dcurrey Ok I still don't know what the verdict is on this update. Tipstir can you plz give me the yay or nay for this firmware update. I'm currently on 1.21 and I'm a little concerned about htis firmware since i can't go back. What is the final verdict of this firmware? Any increases of speed? Is there anything better performance wise? Thx for all responders! |

Excellent signals, no dropouts and N had a constant rate of 270 Mbits. With 1.31, I can't get over 108Mbits with N and G fluxes from 36-54. Don't touch this firmware, you might get lucky and 1.31 will be fine or you might end up like the lot of us with loads of issues. -- I love fish sticks. I love putting fish sticks in my mouth. |

Don't touch this firmware, you might get lucky and 1.31 will be fine or you might end up like the lot of us with loads of issues. Mine A3 had 1.10 on when I had purchased it a year ago. It couldn't be downgraded to prior ones used on A1, A2. I had flashed to 1.11 and used Wireless G for 6 months. The started with N/G and under 1.11 never bothered to re-flash. Until one day there was issues with N. Going all N only didn't solve the issues. Tried firmware 1.21B02 that worked until wireless had the up and down motion. So I had flashed it to 1.22B05 and wow! Bang Wireless worked for 1.5 months. Then issues again. Flashed it to 1.30NA and everyone was working for a few weeks then I couldn't use the wireless. Flashed it to 1.31NA and well wireless is strong but can't stay stable.
During this time:
Buffalo N 10/100 DIR-615N 10/100 A1 DIR-655N 10/100/1000 A3 WNR834Bv2 10/100 TEW-652BRP 10/100 (flash with modded C1/C2 for 615) Belkin N+ 10/100/1000
None of these did any better in N except for Belkin N+
Now I did buy the Belkin N+ used it as AP with the 655 as the main router. Can't work like that. Tried it as the main and 655 as AP worked for a while but not on all wireless laptop got issues. So drop it off the line and then wow no more errors...

I still have the DIR-655 offline until it can be worked out with the wireless with dlink... |

@ingcanada.com | reply to dcurrey Ok...so verdict is not to flash this firmware. I'll wait for the next one. I'm currently with 1.21 (no securespot) and everything is perfect. No need to mess it up with 1.31. lol |

@comcast.net | If you turn off the wireless N do the dropouts still happen on b/g? |

| reply to Scree I suppose its too much to hope the stability of B is not dependent on N being OFF. I was hoping that 1.31 was going to fix B,G and N where B actually worked again. Unfortunately, B is still only stable with N off (B only, or B and G). My A3 has never lived up to its promise (B, G and N) is no such thing. B is so unstable with N on, that it more often than not will not even show in site survey. I'll not give up my Palm TX so B is absolutely critical.
B and G both are rock solid with radio set to set to B and G WPA2. I experimented with using an old DI-524 for B only and changing the DIR-655 to G and N only. Again it seems solid with 1 N client and 2 G clients. Problem was I was reminded of the limitations of the DI-524 signal. Not to mention the power consumption, not something someone living in Texas needs to increase. Especially going into Summer and August. -- DLink DIR-655 Siemens SpeedStream 4100 |

| reply to dcurrey Looks like another stupid release and still not addressing the DNS Relay issues. I mean I'll flash my router to 1.32NA Beta, that just sitting there gathering dust. Just they need to just keep the beta word on all there firmware. I feel it's wasted hardware just not being able to use it. |
