1 edit | reply to dcurrey Re: DIR-655 1.31 Firmware available
My dir-655 was running fine, getting 16mb down on both hardwired and wireless on an 18mb system , and I got stupid and updated it to 1.31. My speed dropped to 4mb and jerky and nothing I did would make it better so I upgraded to the beta with nothing to lose, well it dropped to 2mb on wireless. I wound up just using the uverse 2wire and getting my speed back, but no more n wireless. What a pile of crap.
I just found this on dlink's forum by lycan a mod:
quote: Moving on......if you believe that the firmware is causing your unit to fail, contact technical support, request that they assist you with your issue, and if not resolved request a replacement unit. You can even go as far as to request a unit with 1.21 if you like.

@sbcglobal.net | reply to dcurrey So far the 1.32 beta is doing better. I'm looking forward to that new ASUS router that's coming out soon that is supposed to be made for p2p and heavy use.
I used to love my DIR-655 until 1.31. It has made it very unreliable. |

3 edits | reply to dcurrey Hey guys, these settings I am using now and it's a big difference. I reverted back to 1.31 first and now getting a stable signal with my speed back. The beacon period, rts threshold and fragmentation threshold are the ones that made the difference, the new firmware uses different settings:
Transmit Power - High
Beacon Period - 80
RTS Threshold - 2100
Fragmentation Threshold - 2100
Dtim Interval - 1
802.11 mode - n only
Channel - 11 (or other)
Transmission Rate - Best (Automatic)
Channel Width _ Auto 20/40
Security Mode - WPA-Personal
WPA Mode - WPA2 Only |

@verizon.net | Interesting wireless settings, after changing the Beacon Period, RTS Threshold and Fragmentation Threshold settings, my 802.11n bridge DAP-1522 started getting better speeds from the DIR-655. |

@mchsi.com | reply to dcurrey Don't know about anybody else but i think i am going to wait for the Final version version before update the 655 firmware again. Hopefully Dlink will fix whatever's wrong with v1.31 |

| reply to dcurrey I am glad I found this thread. It is good to see many others sharing ideas and discussing the dir-655. Ours has been pretty good I must say. I have lately been trying to transfer things over the network and trying out settings to get higher speeds. I am only around 2mb/s in vista so far, but I guess it probably depends on the files being transferred.
It is also great to know which of the firmware are good or not. I am on the latest as well. |

| reply to dcurrey Maybe we should all email them the same email with all the problems of the newer firmware at the same time. We can all just change the title on the email. It will make them read through it over and over so they get the message we want it DONE. |

1 edit | reply to dcurrey Just looking through some posts I found this is almost exactly the same on my router.
"Excellent signals, no dropouts and N had a constant rate of 270 Mbits. With 1.31, I can't get over 108Mbits with N and G fluxes from 36-54."
It seems this is my main problem with the new firmware. It also seemed to me like 1.31 was more stable than 1.32. Does anyone else have this experience.
I also own a DWA-552 wireless adapter and noticed it has much better signal with the 1.5 drivers from dlink surprisingly. I was using direct Atheros drivers before from here.
I was getting around 30 signal in the wireless status tab on the router and now I am up to 70. I get 108-162 mbps now so a descent improvement, but not where it should be. |
