| reply to Msradell Re: Dir-655 1.31 firmware available
hmm Well it's definitely an improvement over the buggy (for many) 1.22b05 and not-much-better (for most) 1.30. But things are looking up for 1.31 vs. 1.21 (so far - I'll know in a few more days of use).
said by Msradell :said by KGB7 :If you are using 1.21 or lower, you should upgrade. What do you say that? My impression is you probably want to upgrade to 1.22B05 but I'm not so sure you would want to upgrade to 1.31! I haven't seen any major improvements documented for it in the definitely appears to be some drawbacks. I think it needs more time to settle out before everyone starts jumping to it! |

O.K. All is not good with 1.31 FW for me. At first, I transferred my settings from my 1.11 FW, and as soon as I did, I got in a constant loop of it doing it's speed test on my network, and I never could log-on.
I reset back to the default state, and stared entering data manually. As soon as I input a NTP server on the Time screen, the problem started again. Does anyone use this feature without it killing your router? Save your settings BEFORE you enable it so if it happens to you, you can restore. |

Make all your changes as need except for NTP server settings. Save your settings on to a file by exporting your settings. Then play with NTP settings. |

| reply to dcurrey I have a DIR-655 A2. I was running version 1.21.
I "upgraded" to 1.31. Now the WAN DHCP client sits there forever saying "Establishing (please wait...)".
I have reset, reconfigured, 30-30-30, many times... nothing fixes it. My old saved settings don't fix it, and factory default settings don't fix it.
I plugged in my old Linksys, and wrote down it's WAN DHCP settings. I reset the DIR-655, set WAN as static IP, put in the written down settings, it worked.
Feeling confident, I reloaded my old saved settings into the DIR-655, setup the WAN as static IP again, but this time, no joy. Plugged in the LinkSys again, and it works fine. Lather, rinse, repeat.
So, I've effectively bricked my DIR-655, as the DLink release notes say, you can't downgrade from 1.31. Genius. I would suggest that DLink's QA Manager and Development Manager should be fired, and a couple of programmers too. And since this seems to be 1 in a long line of problems, the VP of Development should be fired too. DLink, are you listening? |

However, my own FTP wont work on port 21, strange. :-(
said by texxsharkk :I just want to know if anyone has upgraded that has A4 hardware AND uses Xbox Live! Don't wanna mess with my gaming, you know?? (a little late to this forum...but how much difference is there really at this point in hardware versions? A4, A3, etc?) |

@as9105.com | reply to ziggy90127 The mistake you've made is loading settings from a previous version onto the new one. You can't downgrade because this version updates the kernel i.e. nothing can be done about that and is why the old settings file won't work/made things worse. |

I guess I have to buy a new one, can't downgrade. :-( Buy a new one from Best Buy, swap the old router with the new one and bring it back. That's what I did when 1.21 bricked my router. You might have to replace the stickers under the actual router but BB didn't even check it when I bought it back. -- I love fish sticks. I love putting fish sticks in my mouth. |

Do a search, I seem to remember someone claiming it worked on their V2 unit but for the life of me I don't remember who it was. |

| I picked up one of these routers yesterday its the hardware A4 revision with 1.21 firmware.
Iv read all the posts in this thread and just curious if anyone has any updates on if its worth it to upgrade to this firmware or not? Right now everything is rock solid and I have no problems. The one compelling thing I read tho was that wireless N performance was increased? Can more people confirm this? |

Anyone have success upgrading v. A2 of this router? Yes, I have upgraded an A2 (and A3) from 1.21 to 1.31 and with their saved settings files just fine.
Going on 5 days uptime with 1.31, which is about the max time 1.22b05 went before the router just started "failing to create sessions." Here's hoping it's better now.:) |

| I was going to say before you updated "eots" if it bricked your 655 that would be a one way ticket to a new router.
There is absolutely no mention of versions when it comes to the updates.
The only reasonable assumption it one size fits all.
@FrostyMelon,
You guys are going to get the idea I live at Costco (OK so I do) but they have V4 with firmware 1.20 on them. I believe reading this forum you would get the idea that 1.20 & 1.21 are not any good yet D'Link ships units with it on them and you say 1.21 is "Gold".
I am going over to Mesquite NV this evening and play the slots, I think the odds are better than trying a new D-Link firmware.
Albeit my up time on a V3 update 1.31 is: Connection Up Time : 5 Day 5 Hour 55 Min 40 Sec. |

My two 'solid' firmware(s) are 1.11 and 1.22b05. |
