mapleosb posted : This past weekend, I noticed what seemed to be much slower refresh rates for my web pages. I had just made the upgrade to FF 3.5. In trying to find out what was happening , I did a speed test and found, like you, that I was at 1324kbps/640kbps when I am supposed to have Elite speeds.

I tried repeated tests using Safari and Camino, all with the same results. I contacted AT&T tech support and went through the usual items (router reset, unplug, etc.), which I had already done myself. I was given a case number and told that someone would call in an hour.

As I was composing an IM to Mr.Fixit to request a line check, I get a call from an AT&T tech rep who reviews the whole scenario again. Then she says, "Oh, OK, I see where the problem is, it is on our end, let me call someone to reset it for you." In a minute or two, she comes back online and asks me to retest the speed. I do and now I am back at 5249/750 as was normal before.

When I asked her what happened she said, "Oh it was just reset back to the lower tier level." Since I hadn't made any service changes, I asked her why did it happen. Her reply was "We don't know, sometimes it just does that!" I was speechless! :o

Now I wonder how many other folks that could be happening to as well? Moral of the story for me is to check my speeds more frequently so as not to pay for what I am not getting.

Jeff G posted : Not flaming hear guys but I went through this about a month ago. I had the nice Indian folks told me I must have a virus and that my wiring was bad etc all the read off the screen details. Actually had2 great techs come out and verify that there was no problem in my house. He changed the card at the RT and re-provision the line with some one from Illinois on the phone I think. No luck. My elite which normally had run about 4000/400 never got close to that again topping out at about 1800/170. I switched to cable. It is $18 more but I have no complaints since the switch. BTW as you all know Mark was all the help and more that you could hope for. Good luck guys I wished mine had worked out different.

anon posted : hi. it seems like many people have the problem of slow dsl speeds. my elite package has dropped to 1.28 download .60 upload. i called once and gave up after the indian tech support kept asking if my modem was on carpet. tried again today and asked for an american service rep. after many tests she said it looked like service was having problems in my area but my zip code wasnt listed so she had no idea when it would be running correctly. i should call back in a day or two if my speeds dont improve. this happened once before many months ago and they were supposed to check my pole and leave a card with the results. problem was fixed but no card. does it sound like they really have a clue what my problem is? does anyone here have an idea whats going on? thanks!
