new customer

We built our home in 2006 and at that time Vista III media was the cable provider. We had heard many bad things about them, so we stayed with DirecTV and BellSouth DSL. DirecTV does not offer our locals in HDTV and our waivers were declined. We tried an ATSC tuner with DirecTV but would have had to put up a large OTA in the backyard and that was not going to happen. So we switched to cable, being Metrocast which just bought out Vista III media. With my old DSL from BellSouth we got speeds of 2500/210 most of the time. With the internet from Metrocast we are getting 10M/1.5M speeds which ROCK. And so far no hiccups:) Their support is not that great after you get hooked up since they have said they would call me back and have not. The TV channels are still hazier when not watching HDTV. The tech said this would be cleared up in June with more HDTV channels coming. Yes I miss my DirecTV and the easy menu guide with all of DirecTV's DVR receivers. The cable boxes are huge, ugly and very complicated. I miss TIVO the most, but from my research TIVO has some issues when you connect your local cable to one of their boxes. Metrocast charges you for anything and everything and they are expensive. But the internet speeds rock right now and my gaming online with Xbox live allows me to host many matches which is all worth it in the end. So goodbye DirecTV and Bellsouth, you have been good to me. Hello Metrocast, please keep me a happy customer.

Re: new customer

I'm with you on the TV part of it, especially on the equipment part. The guide program is worse than DirectTV or DishNetwork and the DVR is less than what I expected but asides that it's servicable for the time being. We watch a few shows so it's not a huge deal. The internet part of it is because we spend a good amount of time using it. We have 7/512 which is nice when the best I have before was 3/512 from ATT so the boost in download is quite nice, when I get the speed which so far has been a big hit and miss. Most of the time I am downloading at a much lower rate than with the DSL line and no matter what they say the reliability is just not there like with DSL, in my experience. If I had the ability to use U-verse or FIOS, it would be a complete no brainer. As is, I'm content with what we have at the moment. I would easily switch back to DSL if I was unhappy, at least a reliable 3/512 beats a spotty 7/512 anyday in my book. Thanks for sharing.
