Totally over blown by the Media. Basic hygiene is your friend throughout life. Now is no exception. Have a great trip. -- If only the Verizon CSRs worked this well. |

| Exactly. I will recommend Tamiflu, one of the medications used to battle the fly.
4 years ago I got the flu a week or so before my wedding. For me when I get the flu I go from feeling fine to feeling like death in the course of 1-2 hours. I got to the doctor's office and he just started prescribing it. 24 hours later I felt 50% better, and the day after I felt great.
It is truly IMO a wonder drug. -- "So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb."

@QWEST.NET | Sure Tamiflu. Only ones to get that will be either lucky or connected. There is not a real stockpile of that on hand. |

We are talking 257 cases out of millions of people on the planet right now. I am not seeing a huge infection at this point.
EDIT-cases worldwide were 100 less than my original post.

Sure Tamiflu. Only ones to get that will be either lucky or connected. There is not a real stockpile of that on hand. I haven't heard of any shortages. It's just hospitals don't want people coming to the ER to get Tamiflu and Relenza if they haven't been exposed to the flu. Save those drugs for people that have been exposed and who are currently battling it.
People, this really is nothing to worry about. Kill your television. You're far better off washing your hands, cover your mouth and practice good hygiene after being in public. -- "Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy." - George Carlin

Both that and Tamiflu would be effective on the flu for people already exposed. Neither will prevent you from getting the flu. Tamiflu is used for prevention. Tamiflu can make the duration of the flu virus in an infected person be shorter and much less severe. It does not cure the flu. It simply reduces the severity and length of the flu.
There is no "cure" for the flu. However, Tamiflu has been shown that it can prevent the flu if someone in your household has been diagnosed, and you have come within close contact. One can take it to avoid getting sick, but it is by no means 100%.
No healthy individual, unless they have been exposed to the flu should be taking Tamiflu or Relenza right now. -- "Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy." - George Carlin

Bottom line is, nothing prevents the flu. Tamiflu and Relenza are good to have and should be used under the right circumstances.
Edit: Here is a nice summary of Q&A for the swine flu and what the best things you can do.

I have a patient who's MD orders Ancef every time the patient takes a trip "just in case". I think the patient is a big enough pain in the ass to the MD, that the MD prescribes (within reason) whatever she asks for. -- "Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy." - George Carlin

Sure Tamiflu. Only ones to get that will be either lucky or connected. There is not a real stockpile of that on hand. Tamiflu is as common on pharmacy shelves as any other drug during flu season, and doctors have no problem at all writing scripts for it if you have the flu. It's not even that expensive. |
