| FUD about the capacity of the internet I'm currently raising money for a start-up company that relies heavily on the assumption that the USA broadband markets will eventually develop into an environment where 14/2 mbps and 20/5 mbps are basic broadband floors.
Recently there has been a lot of news about how all this new traffic from TV shows and filesharing on the internet is going to grind everything to a halt and a lot of complaining from ISPs like Time Warner Cable about the need for metered billing as a way of stabilizing the entire infrastructure to save it from collapse. I know this isn't true, but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or expertise to help clarify this with people.
Why can't Moore's Law apply to the internet and not just computer hardware (which makes the internet)? Why can't we have either a customer serving municiple utility like infrastructure like the Greenlight project in NC that has recently been spotlit nationwide, or simply decent competition among providers across the country rather than a single telco and a single cable company in most parts of the country to provide high speed internet? Why are things so mediocre compared to other parts of the world? |
