Need Admin Pass for SpeedStream 4100 (a) modem

This thread didn't help.

I bought a SpeedStream modem on ebay. It is brand new in original box. I've owned the 4100b and the 5100x and am use to going to 192.168.0.1 to log into the modem control panel.

However, this modem is different. The instructions say to goto »speedstream/ and that I don't need a user name (because it's hard-coded into the form) and the password is "admin."

However, it does not work. I get the following error page:
  Form Input - Error

This user profile requires a password

Return to Configuration

I've tried all permutations of "admin" in the form of capital letters vs regular.

I thought it was my Vista OS, but now that I am using my laptop's XP, I realize that's not an issue.

I am at my witt's end since I have been searching for a solution for a couple of days. Google is not my friend.

The password given in the linked thread (on page 2) didn't work either. The ebay member who had the unused modem couldn't provide any assistance either. (Telling me the ISP that provided it in the first place)

Thanks for your time and effort.

Part Number plus Firmware version would be the first thing to look at.

Hey Doc, thanks for the reply.

I was able to get in somehow. Here's what I did:

I hit the reset button the the back of the modem for 10 seconds. All the LEDs were lit during reset.

Then after the modem did it's thing, I "rebooted" the modem through it's control panel.

Then, when it came back up, the password worked, and I was able to get in.

... now, I don't know what to do to set up my ISP's information. (username@att.net | password) :-/

You would need to ask in your ISP Forum for the setting and correct VPI/VCI information (usually 0/35).

You would likely have to either modify the existing WAN VC settings or created a new WAN VC (Virtual Circuit with the correct settings). Once you create a New VC, you would want to check mark the box next to it. Under the setup box, it will read. "Checked interface is the default WAN interface."
