Chapter 11 had hit a few stalls, but last I heard it was okay'd by a judge to proceed.

I think by the end of the year, we'll have 60 mBIT internet.

I heard a "rumor" that Charter has been developing a new software that monitors all Charter connections in real time 24/7 in order to better calculate the on and off times of all customers. Why? This new software will be able to redirect scattered 'off-time' residential bandwidth and funnel it (very close to real time) directly to small, selected areas of the country thereby "boosting" these areas up to, or very near 60Mbits(this is only early test runs)...while at the same time putting it back so as not to interrupt the lower paying customers. But as we all are seeing now, it's not running too smoothly. All the timeouts. The wild speed fluctuations(usually at certain times daily). And here is a big bomb for you all. everyone CAN get 60mb right now. The lines are all set. Don't believe me? Good for you. Call them and ask them to provision your modem to 60mb just for a minute so you can run a speed test for a hardware issue you are having(But be more imaginative than me)lol

The system is still learning and monitoring and making faster and faster decisions.

Supposedly the new model of the future will not contain unlimited bandwidth for all. So the ISP's new job is not going to be consumer driven, It will be a government branch that is responsible for the real-time distribution of the only pool of bandwidth that can exist. Sending it to ppl who need access to the net and monitors EVERYTHING you do because you are using bandwidth that (in the near future) becomes as accurately priced and packaged as any tangible item today... namely gasoline. Then the moment you log off the ISP's won't spill a drop of the precious bandwidth still in the bottom of your cup.

The future is all about managing in real-time the constant level of available bandwidth being used and recycled in a permanent state of quantity. It becomes the new gold. More powerful and sought after than even oil! That's the power of disconnecting any communication to and from anywhere for as long as they might feel the need. Social breakdown!

From what I understand (which is very limited) , the Docsis 2.0 modems that everybody has right now simply can't handle 60 megs.

So that just invalidated your whole post.

LOL indeed.

Either you've posted this as a joke or you really are clueless about routing standards and DOCSIS specifications. If the local plant is not running DOCSIS 3 then 60mbit isn't gonna happen no matter how you look at it.

The "learning system" you refer to is likely engineers migrating areas over to the new private backbone which has seen mixed bag results over in that thread.

This just went in the direction of facepalm territory...

DOCSIS 2.0 is limited to 38mbit, and that applies to head-end and end-user alike.

The post stating that everyone can get 60mbit is not taking the physical hardware into account. In his mind, he's talking about bandwidth aggregation (and it's not possible in D2 land).

Listen... that argument is tantamount to saying that I can buy 100 gallons of gas for my car right now - Quicktrip has thousands of gallons of gas that's not being used, and my car can burn that gas RIGHT NOW.

The error in this is that my gas tank (DOCSIS 2) is limited to 38 gallons (absolute maximum), so how do I fit that 100 gallons into my tank? Not to mention the other problems that I would need to tie into this analogy (certain pumps can only pump 38 gallons at a time, etc).

Regardless, you get the idea. I hope to hell that he doesn't challenge me with a bandwidth capacitor theory...

I don't think it really matters! Most of us could be opened full throttle and still not get 10Mbps service. Hell next they say there starting direct lines ....ROCK AND ROLL!!

FTW...

Wow that comparing gasoline to bandwidth is superlame. To bad you don't have to drill it out of the ground. Lay more fiber to the homes and larger backbones all over and were good. Fiber speed keeps improving more and more. Att needs to drop this copper crap and move on. Even 60mb is a patch to the long term of things. I'm talking about multi tbs pbs connections. The day will come...

meant to say pretty funny and with no specifics of course. By the time they roll it out it will be nothing special. Too bad though.

Wow, thanks for torching somebody who is on your side... I was pointing out how ludicrous PiP's rantings were. Way to be an a-hole.

I'm one of the biggest proponents on this board for U60, and I've been using all of my avenues to get information to people here (although lately the Chater reps have been very helpful).

But by all means, go ahead and just whine about fiber until it comes - that's by far a more effective option. It doesn't even hold water, since we have fiber everywhere where I live (FTTN), and yet the head ends and 99% of the ISPs are not in a position to offer that much bandwidth yet.

Those in St Louis area, are you also seeing the Ultra 60 TV commercials by Charter.

Channel 39 Head Line News ran the ad during lunch today. (06/02)
And also last night, but I don't remember the channel

I had someone mention to me today that they saw a commercial for U60 - I remember thinking that was odd, but I guess it's true.

Now let's get it more rolled out, eh?

I got a call from that company contracted by charter uses to sell services from , they told me 60meg is now available in my area and if i want to sign up. I said yes, but after checking they said sorry but no modems are yet available in my area but would contact me as soon as they are. Price was $115 a month for just 60meg.
