| Unlocking Bell Sympatico 2Wire 2701HG-G Modem
Fellow Forum Users:
I've posted a note about the the 2Wire used by Bell Canada's Sympatico Service some time ago. I wanted to force the 2Wire into bridge mode ahead of our own home wireless router.
While my original note received some good answers and solutions, the results were negative. No attempt to unlock this blessed piece of technology worked. I calling 2Wire support which resulted in assumptions that the firmware was not locked down.
There has to be a way into this modem. Why would Bell lock it down if they couldn't get into it to do their so-called 'troubleshooting and snooping'. How ever they log into it would be the only way to reset it, I would think.
Anyone have suggetions? |

You can hold the reset down foooorrrreeeevvvvveeeerrrr and it won't go to factory specs.
See, the problem is the modem comes up as a Bell modem ready to connect to the network due to its firmware settings.
You can't bypass the firmware, unless you can break into the setup console to disable the features and then attempt a PPoE connection. |

Let me investigate and I will get back to the forum, OK? Can't get to a console screen where DHCP or static IP can be accessed. The gateway for the console is 192.168.2.1, but that takes you to a maintenance screen Bell has placed in the firmware. The software version is 5.29.115.5 if that helps at all.
I tried to get to the MDC page by using URL »gateway.2wire.net/mdc but it prompts for a psswd that is probably known to every Bell tech out there. |

There is a 'b1' user ID and password already present in the PPPoE dialog box now.
I guess I'm not clear on what this buys me, other than to connect to the Bell ISP network as a DSL device via my phone line and using my own 'b1' user ID.
Aren't the wireless features still active, and will it be in bridged mode?
Won't it still be acting as a full fledged firewall/router?
So many questions. Sorry. |

said by pewtermug77 :And will it be in bridged mode? No it will not be in bridge mode, Sorry for wasting your time I was offering some alternatives to bridged mode I don't know how to set the 2701HG-G for bridge mode |

| The last post is in this chain is almost 3 months ago. I just received my 2wire 2701HG-G and I wish to use it in Bridge mode between Bell and my LinkSys NAT/PAT/Router/Switch combo thingy . Are there any later developments that might help me?
When I called Bell to replace my old Speedstream the person on the phone assured me that the 2wire would operate in Bridge mode, but I admit that I havent contacted them again yet to try to find out how to do it. -- Just a thought ... Glen |

| reply to pewtermug77 My brother recently had problems with his DSL modem and Bell replaced it with the 2701. Trying to get it into Bridge mode was problematic until he phoned Bell. Believe it or not, the tech had it in bridge mode within 5 minutes and he was able to connect his AirPort Extreme Base Station to the modem within seconds! Everything now works great.... |

Perhaps setting the modem up for a different ISP will get you what you want. |

| reply to pewtermug77 Hi All!
After unlocking the modem with the Singtel Firmware, my wireless light is not turning on, but it does appear on my list of wireless connections on the laptop.
Did anyone find a work around this, I didn't attempt to connect, so I don't know.
Also, in regards to setting up the User ID & password thru 2Wire, it always adds the suffix @singtel.net or something.
How do you avoid that?
What is the username suffix for "B1" usernames from Bell Sympatico .. is it B1XXX12@sympatico.ca ?
Also, what is the user name suffix for "TekSavvy", my activation email is not arrived yet, but I wanted to know in advance. What is the suffix after the @ symbol?
Also, I read somewhere, if you use this key code:
5225-2374-WG62-22AS-BJ7P
During the setup of the 2wire, it'll never ask for the @ suffix at the end of the user name, is that correct? |

You should be able to edit the username/password to what you need to use, there are other teksavvy users using the modem/software for internet access

That is a generic key code its not linked to any isp, other key codes are linked to a isp I think the key codes are harmless so try it |
