Folks,

Take a look at Jeff's HD Communication Summit in NYC on May 21, 2009 - »www.hdcomms.com
contact me directly at the email address below.

Regards,

Daniel Berninger
CEO, FWD
Out of curiosity, I looked at the site. I see it's a one day conference and a conference schedule, but the one big thing that is missing is where it is! All I can find is it is in New York City. New York City is a big place. The Hotel and Travel tab only says to contact Priceline or JetBlue for travel deals. It's kind of hard to book a convenient hotel if you don't know where convenient is. I guess I could requested a brochure if I was serious about going to figure out where it is. But lacking such basic information on their website makes me think they're about as serious about HD Voice as they were with FWD.

This page refers to the event as "HDComm 2009"

Googling, I find this page where it refers to "New World Stages"

Googling that, I find:

Which shows an address of 340 West 50th St, New York, NY 10019

Too much detective work.

Take $30 in September, and declare "end of life" in March.
Sounded like a perfect scam to me.

Interesting place. Still, I'm not going.

Is anyone really surprised? I don't think it was a scam but the principals never showed any enthusiasm for the new FWD.

Lots of good options. Move on.

My issue is that I did pay the $30 and knowing FWD and Jeff, I didn't think that it is a Nigerian scam. Once they switched to the new sip server, all my numbers stopped working. Anyway, I guess I can look for a new provider and I will be happy even if it is not HD voice.

Could you list some of them? Is Sipphone reliable?

LOL! I rechecked the website and I guess they read your post, because the address is now front and center! Never again think that burgerwars See Profile can't make a difference.

Then, you need to fight FWD with this 419eater (baiting scams with scams).

I started using SIPPhone almost the same time I started using FWD. Since FWD went to PWD, I completely switched to SIPPhone. The services on SIPPhone are as good as FWD (not PWD). However, it too has been showing its aging factors and perhaps will soon demise itself like FWD did.

Exactly what services do you need?

Sipphone is now Gizmo5, BTW.

And as mazilo said, their future may be as bright as a snowman in Georgia.

I am using a few hardware phones. These phones have to be able to call each other without POTS. And one US dial-in number (from sipbroker or somethings else) is needed. Does voxalot would have more future than gizmo5?

I have used FWD for years to communicate with my family in Europe. One of the grandstream phones is with me and is being sent over in a couple of weeks. I have to configure it before it's sent out, because my mom is not into Voip configurations

Maybe this would meet your needs:

Setup free accounts ("IP Freedom") with CallCentric (CC).

Their "IP Freedom" accounts can call each other (both inbound and outbound) for free either by the 1777xxxxxxx CC number or by direct SIP calling.

And CC has good peering with other networks as well:

You can get a free US DID number from IPKall and forward it to a CallCentric account. That's a freebie from IPKall and from CC.

If you do request a free DID number from IPKall, it will go MUCH faster if you use the email address from your own ISP instead of one from Yahoo or Hotmail or such.

---------------------------------

EDIT: You could also look at a free account from CallWithUs (CWU). Things are not as plush as with CallCentric, but one thing that's easier: With CallWithUs, you can set up a free main account, and set up several sub-accounts within it. Each subaccount has a 9-digit CWU number, and you could assign one to each phone so they could freely call to each other. And an IPKall DID can be forwarded for free to CWU.

And--

CallCentric offers advanced services for free on the IP Freedom accounts---

Free voicemail, advanced call treatments, more.

------------------------------

The attraction of FWD always escaped me, especially on a paid basis.

Honestly, I was just responding to remarks by B. It could be any entity who takes the $$$ and then declares end of life in less than a year of service. Nothing more and nothing less.

Thanks. I will check them out. I don't need anything plush, no VM, no HD, no email alerts, etc. But connection to Sipbroker or other local NYC dial-in number is essential. The simplest would be to assign a Vitelity DID to one of the phones, but the problem is that these phone end-points used to call each other also. I wish Vitelity has a free in-network calling without touching POTS.
Regarding myself getting scammed for $30: I am not very angry, this should be the biggest loss I even encounter. I'm usually a pretty cautious fellow, I just didn't expect it from Pulver and Co. Anyway, I am thankful for their service for the past decade, I have to say, it improved my quality of life and it was fun to be on the cutting edge 10 years ago. If they said that hey buddy we are short of cash, give us a few pennies for this service, I would probably have sent a case of beer to their office. I am not going to hang on this.
