| reply to Titus09 Re: [CATV] DCX3400 green screen issue.
Both the HD and HD/DVR boxes I have are the DCH series. So far I don't see a reason to switch. But I know sooner or later I will want or need the bigger hard drive capabilities. Or just plain want a new toy.

| reply to jmirabella I have reconnected the HDMI output to my Sony KDL-46XBR4 tv. I have component hooked up as a backup. My box is locked to 1080i for HD and 480i for SD. HDMI has been working fine for 2 days now. I'm not sure it had anything to do with having another device hooked up over HDMI, since those don't talk to each other. I deactivated the HDMI device control on my tv. Neither my PS3 and DCX box are controllable anyway. Maybe this is a clue. I will update this post if anything changes. So far so good. The only things different from before are the HDMI control off and component hooked up also. |

| Firmware is version 22.28 and so far so good. No green screen for many days now.
I have noticed the image occasionally going black on HDMI and when I switch to the component output I see narrow interlaced versions of the screen. It looks strange enough that I snapped a pic in case seeing it might be helpful. This is a rare occurrence and can be remedied by changing channels and/or turning the box off and on again a couple times. It does not seem to effect recordings, only the output. |

| reply to Coast3r I re-enabled the "Native" video output that will show 720p or 1080i to match the channel or program. Not sure if that was the issue, but I woke up to a green screen this morning on my DCX. Probably has nothing to do with the HDMI control function in my tv. My guess now is that something involving 720p output is involved. I'm perplexed. |

| reply to Goliath I am having the same green screen issue.
1) When you turn off power and hit menu, there are some settings on the box, do they affect this?
2) how do I find out what firmware version I have and what it should be?
3) Am I better off just returning this box to Comcast and getting something else?
thanks |

| reply to Goliath Here's a quick story about obtaining one of these boxes today for my grandfather. I escorted him up to Avenue C (Our local service center for the Lehigh Valley) and we set him up with a nice new HD DVR box after I talked him into it. We go there, get a box, obtain a $30 HDMI cable and head home. I hook the box up, and leaving the center the attractive lady told me that it'd take an hour to setup the box. We let the box go for two hours, no picture. So I did the trick to get to the box settings by turning off the box and pressing menu... the screen is going nuts, flashing green, then the lettering come up to change the settings, then flashes green. Long story short.... RCN is coming out to trouble shoot the issues. Man these boxes are junk, I'm reading horrid things about them on here, I'm sooooooo happy I keep my "old school" box. And by old school i mean a box with the frickin' time on the front of it!!!! |

| I'm not sure you're going to get anything different now. It took a tech who luckily had a few in his truck to get one. Avenue C doesn't have them anymore to give out. So it'd cost a service charge to get one at your place. I'd just call support everyday and complain about a green screen issue and you want a DCH box, it's probably the only way to get a working box. |

| reply to Goliath no more green screen!
RCN rolled out a new firmware to our DCX's last night, so everyone who had the green screen/hdmi/sony tv issues should be good. thanks to rcnman and motorola for putting that out! all we need (Lehigh valley) is more HD channels and i'll be pretty content, thanks again. |

| I posted an admittedly minor issue (unrelated to green screen) with the new firmware in a separate thread: »(Minor) IR problem with new Firmware Upgrade on DCX Box
I didn't suffer from the green screen problem, so I can't comment there. |

| reply to rcnman DCX3400 for Boston, MA market... what to expect...
I'm in Dedham, MA and caught wind of the DCX3400... what is it really? What can I expect?
1. Timeline of availability 2. Bigger drive from 3416 that I have ? I believe it's 250gb vs 160 on the 3416, right ?
3. Higher compression? MPEG4 vs MPEG2 for the 3416 ?
What else ? Multi-room ? External drive capable ?
I'm asking because my 3416 is acting up and I need to swap don't wanna consolidate my trip to the local office for this swap...
THANKS! |

THANKS! 1 - Timeline, no clue as to when the DVRs will be here. Cable guy told me about 2 weeks - back in May. The DCX HD reciever is being distributed right now.
2 - The DCX boxes do have a bigger 250gb hard drive vs the 160gb hd on the DCH/DCT series.
3 - It does support MPEG 4, but at this time all cable companies still use MPEG 2 to deliver video. It also has a 1ghz tuner inside, which gives it access to more channels. Both the tuner and MP4 support are dependant on whether or not RCN decides to implement them in the future.
Multi-Room DVR, external HD capability, and Media support are all dependant on RCN and its software vendors enabling those features on the boxes. |
