Maybe after trying to get you to take FIOS for phone (and in Maryland, the copper always goes away if you move your *existing* VZ phone service). By going with a third party, you could actually stand a decent chance of keeping the copper (just for phone).

I'm afraid that's not true at all. fios data only has always been available. so has fios tv - as a standalone product. verizon phone is not required at all.

We don't get the same 50Mb pricing as the east coast does and DSLx's TOS/AUP is very lax.

This may also bring pressure on other major incumbents to offer line sharing agreements.
