I leveled both my toons as subtlety. The reasons were mostly because the improved stealth and increased speed while stealthed are huge bonuses to getting quests done quickly, and questing is by far the quickest way to level.
However I also noticed something when I reached the 60s. Subtlety gives MASSIVE burst damage. Two shotting mobs is almost difficult not to do (or three if you prefer to start with a cheap shot).
The reason is you'll have 5 combo points on your second hit no matter what your opening move is.
When it comes to dailies the same is true, which is why my toon has a sub spec under the new dual specing.
The last reason to go this way is being able to break up the monotony with PvP, and there is no better spec for PvP.
Obviously sub specs are useless for raiding, but they're ok for regular dungeons and heroics. Combat and Mut are of course far superior because after the initial burst damage, sub offers next to nothing. If you don't kill your target fast, it takes too long.
But when you're leveling you get to vanish, evade and so on more often because of decreased cooldowns and prep, so you can take on multiple mobs with no more difficulty than either of the raid specs. In fact I'd say taking on multiple mobs is easier. I tried doing dailies spec'd combat and I hated the fact I'd actually take damage. You simply don't take damage as a sub rogue, not if you use your cooldowns and sub talents right. |
